Welcome and getting started

Depression & ADD ... it's been tough!

Depression & ADD ... it's been tough!

Hi,

For 30 years I've struggled with depression and anxiety. i've been on just about every anti-depressant there is. i hate the trial and error stage and I'm just about to go through that again now an I am petrified. I totally lost it last night so my husband is trying to get me into hospital...but there are no beds at the moment. I always feel so guilty doing this to my family. I have three amazing children, a home and husband but every five years or so I put them and myself through hell. At the moment I just feel so alone, sad and wonder if I can go through this all again knowing that it probably won't be the last time. For those who don't suffer from it I feel so jealous! My greatest fear is that I have somehow passed it on to my children. They are the reason I keep fighting.

Hey @Why1969

Welcome to the forums! It's so great to have you here.

I'm sorry to hear things are hard right now. Trialing different meds is tedious and drawn out, so I can understand why you feel the way you do. Ups and downs are a part of mental health challenges. I'm sure your family want what's best for you even if that means hospital for a short stay.

Do you have any other supports that you can reach out to?

I would encourage you to have a look at the SANE guided service as this may be a service that can support you until you are able to access other support. You can also call the SANE drop in line if you would like to speak to a counsellor.

If things escalate I would urge you to call crisis support.

I really hope you find this to be a supportive space. There are many likeminded members so you're certainly not alone.

Please take care

Hanami

Hi @Why1969,

Welcome to the Forums. My name is FloatingFeather and I am one of the peer workers at SANE. It is nice to have you with us.

My heart goes out to you - I have had anxiety and depression on and off much of my life. I have also trialed different medications during this time to find the one that works best. It's not easy, I know but hopefully you will find the one that works really well for you this time so you don't have to feel the way you are currently feeling because the way you are feeling right now is really tough.

I understand what you are saying about feeling guilty around your family but this isn't your fault in anyway. I would imagine that your husband and your kids just want to see you feel better and to not have to go through what you are currently going through. I think you are demonstrating to your kids what a fighter you are.

I personally know a lot of people that have struggled with depression and anxiety (I think it's far more common than people realise). My husband is one of those lucky ones who hasn't known these struggles - I agree, I'm am jealous of people like that too.

I really hope the trial and error stage goes okay and you find the medication that really works for you. Post here anytime you need to chat - there are many kind people on the Forums with a lot of similar lived experience.

Warm wishes,

FloatingFeather

PS. just a couple of tips to help you on the Forums:

Tip 1 - if you want to directly chat with someone on the Forums use the @ symbol and then start typing their name directly after it. A dropdown box should appear, and you then select their name. This ensures that they are notified of any posts you mention them in.

Tip 2 – the most recent posts are the latest page numbers.

@Eve7 Hi Eve7
Sorry its taken me so long to read your response. I have been admitted to hospital and am trying desperately to find the answer to my mental health decline. For 26 years I have been diagnosed as having Major Depressive Disorder and now they think I have bipolar 2 so are treating me differently. I really don't care what name is given to my illness but I do hope I can find the right medication to keep me stable.
