Piecing the shattered glass together

Piecing the shattered glass together

I decided to start a new thread, my new chapter in my life is going to focus on healing my traumas, building resilience and self-worth and taking the steps of achieving mood stability. I am praying this year will be better than the last. Last year the SI got really intense, was so close to losing hope and I felt like my heart was breaking into a million pieces like shattered glass. It all still feels overwhelming, I have a long way to go on my healing journey, but I think I'm starting to feel a bit more hopeful about the future.

@Kyle1, I don’t think it’s fair to always blame the mum. I know at times I’ve had tensions with both of my parents, and their overprotection felt too much, and it backfired at times. They also didn’t learn to manage their own emotions, so I don’t blame them for not teaching me. They still showered me with lots of love and supported me. A lot of my issues stem from outside my family too.

Yes, it's impossible to be raised by anyone yet be insulated against the influencing factors of nurture and conditioning....

And what would a person be without it? Oh, I shudder to think...

I know Rudyard Kipling tried to draw attention to the possibilities with stories like The Jungle Book, et al. But it's easy to see the romanticism of his ideas getting in the way there...

Would you like to talk about those issues that you mentioned stemming from outside your family, @creative_writer ?

@Kyle1, we all have a story. Some of our stories are heavier than others. Even the people who never struggle with MI tend to have rough periods where they struggled with their mental wellbeing. Struggling is universal.

I won’t go too much into my issues, I have a history of smaller traumas (like childhood bullying, mental health stigma, feeling emotionally unsupported growing up) and bigger traumas like SA.

I think that's why psychoanalyst, Carl Jung, put so much emphasis on the individual needing to "have a myth"... To provide guidelines that connect to an ideal, or direction, or purpose... @creative_writer

@Kyle1, having a purpose is important. When everyone falls out the door, then I only have God, that’s enough to keep me alive.
