Hi again. Lonely, feeling like I can't stop the voices of despair. In so much pain.

Hi again. Lonely, feeling like I can't stop the voices of despair. In so much pain.

Hi there,

I've written several times on this post. I've again been trying to get though to Samaritans, but understandably they are busy. As I've said previously, I find them better for me than CrisisCare, as they don't suggest they can call ambulance, police etc. I'm just having a bit of a hard time right now.

I wrote a post titled "Mental health worker with depression- a double isolator" which got a wonderful, heartfelt response, which I was so grateful for. I feel awful as I've only reached out to a few of you guys, but that's all the energy I have had, and I've tried to support when I can. So Thank You all who responded. I so want to be there for you guys as I know you 'get it' like no other can.

I read on a FB thing asking for feedback on SANE. I hope it's not shutting down???? I can't imagine not being able to pour out everything to you guys.

My hubby is still away (FIFO), but back Thursday night, thank goodness. As I have said in the past, I have major depression and anxiety, with specific phobias (uncooked meat being one - so I burn EVERY meat or fish we eat! And killing someone whilst driving another). It's been 2 weeks since my hubby left. I'm nearly there, regarding his return, but I feel so alone. My last post was actually quite positive, but now I'm feeling crap again. In case you don't know, I'm a therapist, working in mental health in a VERY small country town. I find I stand on a tight rope of 'normalcy' when I am "well", but the slightest thing can tip me over. I've had a strange moment with a friend, and it's getting to me - way too much I know, but it's hard to stop the voices saying end it. I won't end it, but I m self medicating - something I warned a client about just today - oh the irony!

I was due to see a psych tomorrow, but postponed it because I just can't drive at the moment very far. My husbands brother died in a car crash 15 years ago, and I lost my fiancee to terminal cancer 12 years ago, so just can't bear the thought of dying in a car - or more importantly, killing someone else. A car hitting ME as a pedestrian... yes that's often a fantasy, but it's about ME being behind the wheel...

I have metal rods and 14 long screws in my back and am facing more surgery. I'm always in pain, so rely on drugs including diazepam to get me through each day, which is no good when driving. I can't bear the thought of ebing responsible for my child's death when I'm driving, or killing someone else because I'm on meds and therefore a bit out of it. I have an auto-immune disease, so I can't write well with a pen, or open a can with a can opener, or tickle my son (that really hurts). Every day starts the same, I know I'm awake because I'm in pain. nothing doesn't hurt from my head down to my feet. They say there is nothing they can do. I can't go on with this pain. My husband comes home from the mine and has to look after me and our son..... to a degree. I do do stuff, I work, but it's 'passive' work - if you know what I mean. I know I'm rambling....

I'm still trying to get through to Samaritans. They are still busy. But this rant of mine has helped dull the voices. I feel so very alone. Please know that I DO care about you all. I just have no energy right now.

I can't believe my last post was so.... in a round about way, positive. And now here I am needing support again. MI is a bas@#$d. If you've never had it, you really can't understand, which I apreciate and look at those people with green eyes. I hope you are all going okay tonight. I'm going to make a real effort to be there for you too. Just know this - your MI is NOT your fault. It's genetic, it's an equation. Genetics + predisposition + stressor = MI. You are not alone. I am not alone, and this has helped. Thank You if you have beared with me long enough to read this far. I really will try to be there, as so many of you have for me. With all the best thoughts for all of you who are, have been, or could be where I am right now, I feel for you. And will try to support you. You're not alone,

Whim x

hello whim

I have been feeling pretty grim over the last couple of weeks, today earlier even. I ranted another essay length post. i think i might have completed a book by now.

i just want to say that dont even think about responding to others at the moment. you have so much going on and you have been given time out. you even deal with this in your job.

so take back some of what you give to others. let others respond to you, reach out and hold your hand.

this is your time at the moment. just let go and feel held.

we've been there and found it hard to let go so from someone who took a long time to learn this please put you first for now. sending a huge hug with butterflies xxx

Hi @Former-Member

Thanks for your kind words. I hope you are okay after a couple of bad weeks.... and even today as you said.

Thank You for being so supportive. I don't get onto this forum every day sometimes, but I'm thinking of you all. Thanks for saying 'put me first'. It's hard to do that sometimes isn't it!? But I've been honest to myself and only responded if I felt able, even if it did feel like typing through thick mud!

At the moment I'm..... okay. The med increase has definitely helped, and I've got some tools to try to keep the cold wolves at bay. My hubby is away again at the moment, but is back in a week, so I'm holding onto that. I do feel held by this group. One day I hope to be a secure hammock for others to curl up into. Thanks for being a hammock.

Hi @Heart

Thanks for your reply. I'm sorry it's been a long time until I responded.

I find I can't respond until I'm in a bit of a better place. Yes, people here really do get it. thank goodness for this site, as I so often say. But really, what would we do without it, or each other? Not to say we would all end up a gelatinous puddle on the floor, but you know what I mean!

I'm okay at the moment. Constantly talking back to the depressive/anxious voice, but at least I am able to sling back a retort at times, at the moment. My hubby is away again, but back in a week. My work has got busier, but I've recently given up a massive volunteer role, which has helped me have more time and more space to 'be', whatever that means at one time or another.

Thank you, and I hope you are having a smooth week,

Re: Hi again. Lonely, feeling like I can't stop the voices of despair. In so much pain.

Hi @Kurra

Thanks for your response(s). The fact that so long after my last contact with you you still thought of me and checked in means so much.

I hope life is going smoothly for you? I'm here for you too, you know.

I'm okay at the moment. Not fantastic, but keeping things under control, so to speak. I've replied to a couple of other people tonight, and saved you til last, as I really wanted to 'spend time' with my reply. everyone on here is so supportive and lovely, and you have helped me so much.

I feel I don't know what to say! I'm a bit tapped out, and annoyed with myself as I wanted to write you a good response. Maybe I will try again tomorrow, but I will post this regardless, because I want you to know I got your response, and am very very grateful.

Thanks for being here.

Re: Hi again. Lonely, feeling like I can't stop the voices of despair. In so much pain.

Hi @Whim
As you are aware there are times when we can give our all and others when a shorter caring response can be just as effective but leave is feeling that we should have done better. Of course this is not so but the feeling persists.

I am back to working in the field and find I need a lot more sleep to recharge my batteries for the next block of shifts. Being phone work I find it more tiring without the assistance of any visual input. As a result listening has to be significantly more intense to pick up the minimal hesitations etc. It can be quite draining at times. Sometimes I feel a degree of distress but fortunately it is a fleeting issue that can be resolved by a fast walk around the courtyard outside.

The biggest problem I have is when callers speak in a derogative way about people with MI. I'm particularly sensitive when it comes to bipolar. I've travelled in paddy wagons and been restrained so many times in the past....heavens knows how many times! Nevertheless I'm working through this ridiculous reaction and I will rise above it.
All in all though I am thriving and am very much in my element.

I'm glad you've made more time for yourself. It's incredibly therapeutic. Now I'm on 24/7 rostered shifts I really do enjoy the blocks of rostered days off. It helps to keep my work /life balance in better check.

Take care and enjoy your day.
