Self Medicating Again

Self Medicating Again

Am so embarrassed and ashamed to admit this - but I've been drinking again these past 2 weeks & everyday bar one - for the past week.
So of course my mood is low. Depression and alcohol don't mix. I can't work on my anxiety. I don't want to listen to one more relaxation ap or do another breathing exercise or meditation. I don't want to write in my journal. Or do the gardening or dance to music. I just feel like wallowing in self bleeping pity and being self destructive.
Of course - because I've gone off the rails - my mind has nothing but negative self talk to say.
So need to rant here and put down all this negative shite & hope and pray that tomorrow will be another day.
what a bloody hypocrite I've been.

Me too @utopia. I don't know why. How quickly things change and our brain self sabotages. Mine has been going full throttle of I don't care anymore. I have put everyone through the ringer today including me. Asked if I need to be sectioned and then shat on the one person who is there for me - my therapist. I'm sorry I'm not helping you just coming down with you. I told the GP and therapist I would go to the ED but haven't. I'm so messed up.

@utopia and @Former-Member
So sorry to hear about your struggles. Don't see the last couple of weeks as failure because in the scheme of things you can view these slips as just a part of the one step process. It happens to all of us from time to time.
You are both very resilient people. You may have collapsed in a heap for now but you will get u on your feet again as you have previously done. When you're back on feet you will find that you can rise above this and move forward once again.

Thinking of you both 💕 🎶 👍

Big hugs @Former-Member and @utopia.

Hang in there... you two are brilliant at being there for other people.....

Be kind to yourselves; you deserve gentleness and kindness.

We are so quick to beat up on ourselves, despite that only adding to the pain we are already feeling. Why do we do that?

I am genuinely sending good vibes your way...

@Appleblossom @Kurra @Misty1. Allergic to wine. So mine is bourbon - up to 4 cans - which equals 6 standard drinks..I had 2 cans left in the fridge. I b put them in my letterbox and my bff will pick them up on her way to work.
Happy to post here. Hoping it will make it easier to admit to my Psycholigist - if I did it here first. He warned me that I was still at risk of self medicating.
I'm feeling better just having posted it. Don't feel so destructive at the moment.
@Former-Member. You hang in there with me. We will both be better soon & will probably be back to our rightful selves at the same time.
So I'm wishing you well my friend. Talk to me anytime. We can whinge and compare notes and then heal and share triumphs together.
Thanks everyone. Had to put it here - so b I could admit it to myself. now I'll admit it to My psychologist

Re: Self Medicating Again

Hi @utopia

Don't be ashamed my friend as we all have setbacks - keep hoping and praying as tomorrow is another day and a new beginning.

I think the other important aspect is to acknowledge and work through now what the trigger/s were/are that made you feel the need to numb the pain with alcohol. What is it that is getting too much to bear? I can't tell you how many times I have done that in the past; - sometimes the pain/fear/lonliness/grief/stress can seem a bit too much to process and deal with. I understand. Even when we know that numbing it this way will only worsen our depression in time.

Would it help to talk about it? Sending you a warm squishy hug ❤️xx

Re: Self Medicating Again

I'm so sorry I crashed this thread @utopia. It was so impulsive of me. I have no idea what I'm doing at the moment. Everything feel like it's out of control. For me I've been trying to work out why but can't yet. I have such a strong need to turn my brain off and the only way I know how is chemically in a not safe way. My therapist got so frustrated with me today and I don't blame her. I'm feeling very much like a lost child. I'm promising my health professionals one thing and then being too scared to follow through and doing another but in the process becoming more wound up. I guess I'm avoiding at every turn. But also psyching myself up to do bad things too. So I'm having a constant good vs evil battle in my brain and I just need it to stop.

It's been going since the early hours of Saturday morning and I'm so tired. I've had a few hours reprieve. I don't know why I'm writing this. I'm so sorry yo everyone that I'm so totally self absorbed at the moment. I really can't post to others on the forum or respond. All social skills are pretty much MIA.

@Former-Member @utopia hoping you start to feel more grounded and at peace with one self. Just don't be so hard on yourself.
