Doing the wrong thing

Doing the wrong thing

I know I shouldn't do certain things, but it's almost like I can't control it (impulse I guess)....i know it's wrong and may hurt me, but I still do it....but why can't I control it? Why can't I stop myself....I feel like a part of me likes it....another part doesn't, but the part that does is like 'do it again or do more, don't stop'....maybe nearly all care goes out the window....

Hi @Loz_3647 ...do you think it could be sabotaging yourself? Or an addiction? Or a comfort thing? Or a learned response to trauma? Or to protect you against something? Or escapism?

Hi @Loz_3647 , the part that likes it is probably because whatever you are doing is soothing and comfortable? It helps you feel I control even if the action is harmful?

The part the doesn’t like it is probably that you know it’s not getting you anywhere in life. It’s not making you happier in the long run?

I don’t know what thing you are talking about, but that’s what I deduce from your post.

I somewhat resonate when it comes to self harm. It felt like a relief to do it because I was in control, yet the part that didn’t like it was the fact that I was addicted to self harm and it didn’t get me anywhere in life apart from the hospital and all the questions from people….

Im glad I’m beyond that now. I don’t do it at all.
