Self Care Box

Self Care Box

@FloatingFeather @Shaz51 @amber22 @MDT

Heya!

I just had a session with a mental health worker and she suggested I put together a self soothe box for when I am flat again. It's something most of us know about but often don't do. Like a birth plan - how often do we stick to that!

My kids have put together things for me in the past and therapists and friends have made suggestions but they never really resonated. I don't think I was ready. For me, I wasn't ready to do anything that felt like inner child stuff.

So I went on a mission today to create my own resources and I am rather surpised with what has ended up in it!

Juggling balls

Bouncy ball

Wavy Ribbon thing because I used to love doing that when I was a kid

Exfoliating gloves

Mints

Frog - I forgot that I used to collect these as a kid

Make up brush cos I love the feeling on my face

Essential oil - Breath

Colour chart with fun colours

Earplugs that I can squish and use and to remind me to block out extra noiseI don't need

Cocktail umbrellas - they remind me of my Nan who was my favourite soul on earth

Stickers that say "be brave enough to be yourself"

A stamp that has a dinosaur on it to remind me that I may be in my dinosaur mode and that's Ok

And there's Duckie, one of my dogs.

I will cut out the quotes and put them in there as well and create a playlist on Spotify.

I would love to hear what others have done.

Just gotta remember to use it now when I am having a downer.

Take care all - if it takes a bit of fun to get through the silly season, so be it!!!!!

Re: Self Care Box

Heya @Hope0011,

Thanks for the tag - always lovely hearing from you! Thanks for sharing the idea around a self sooth box. I think that is a great idea and you have collected some fantastic items for your box. I particularly love the cocktail umbrellas and the connection to your nan - what a lovely reminder of someone so special to you.

Thank you also for sharing some of your quotes - I actually have collected a few of those quotes for myself over the years!

It took me a while to embrace the inner child idea to but as I have got older it's one thing that I really hold onto now. I think when we forget about our inner child sometimes we can forget the simple pleasures that childhood can bring.

I often say to my 20 year old son `can I have a mummy hug'. It's sounds a little silly maybe but I think deep down he loves it (even though he acts like he's cringing when he gives me a hug lol).

Take care to and I hope the silly season is a lovely one for you and your family.

Warm wishes,

FloatingFeather

PS. how cute is your dog!
