Facing Christmas and nye alone

Facing Christmas and nye alone

Hi people.

I am feeling so anxious and afraid of facing another Christmas without my children. I don’t know how to get through another year. Also nye, I isolate myself due to the stigma and emotional pain of missing my kids.

I feel so lonely and and also tired of it all. Its just unbearable. I need lots of support at this time and I don’t know how to find it.

Thanks

Re: Facing Christmas and nye alone

That is sweet @BobP I feel the same way! It is nice to know we are not alone in being alone... Maybe bittersweet? It's good you found us.

By my calculations you are close to 90 years old? That can't be right?! I might have misunderstood. You don't have to answer that! 😄

Re: Facing Christmas and nye alone

Hi @maddyson, Here is further writing to my earlier post.

Everyone requires a social network to satisfy the human need to be cared for, accepted, and emotionally supported, particularly in times of strength. Research has demonstrated that strong social support may significantly improve recovery from both physical and mental illnesses.

The social network of those that have a disability is most likely limited compared with an abled-bodied or handicapped person. Thus the gathering of disabled persons with a common interest, for example in creative writing, music, acting, painting, etc. with like-minded persons, being guided by a mentor/teacher, would increase networking enormously. Thus giving that much-needed social support to improve recovery or to accept their disability and get on with life doing something creative and interesting.

Suitable venues could be found in each community/locality, a local church hall, School of Arts, CWA, disused council buildings, and the like.

Hi @BobP

Thank U for sharing- & disclosing your age earlier! Sorry, that was perhaps rude of me to enquire. Really, it is because I am impressed! 😊

I think your article is wonderful. Is it a piece you have submitted somewhere? Or is it for yourself?

As a person who has various mental health challenges, I could connect with the subject of isolation.

It is noteworthy, in my opinion, as you discussed, that people who do not face similar challenges, are likely to be more involved in the community naturally.

Isolation can be difficult, because it has a snowball effect - becoming more & more difficult to find the energy to reach out.

I agree that it would be amazing to see many more services, or opportunities available in local communities for people to feel like they can become part of the community.

As you suggested, I don't think it would require too many resources. Simple is fine🙂

The positive effect it could have on people's mental health could give great returns🙂

Thanks @BobP

Re: Facing Christmas and nye alone

Hi Maddison,

No problem about my age, not at all rude.

I wrote the article for an exam some years ago and passed it on to an academic in Chile, and South America, who ran with it, and later used it in a few other SA countries. I have a bucketful of mental health issues too, I recently had three mini-strokes that didn’t help especially while being homeless for a couple of months. I now have a comfortable QLD Housing unit.

On the premises of ‘No one is an island unto their self’; I’m not sure what you mean about isolation.

It would be great if a vacant hall or church could be used as a live theatre and to generate community interest. All players are community members, costumes and curtains from home cupboards, lights from a local electrician, and so on it goes. By the way I’m a retired stage entertainer 🙂

Cheers @BobP

Hi @BobP 🙂

Yes, you are very welcome on the forums. I don't celebrate Christmas either. I'm not yet sure what I'll be doing at that time.

Fishing sounds like a great idea 🙂

I look forward to seeing you around on the forums.

Also, I'm tagging @maddison who may have missed the above messages.

Take care,

tyme

Re: Facing Christmas and nye alone

Good morning (6.00am), @tyme and @maddison and All. 2023 is just around the corner time to recollect this old year and to look forward to the New Year's resolutions. I've had a busy week, had a Christmas chat with a favorite cousin who lives in Canberra. And I've bought fishing lines and tackle hopefully to spend Christmas day on the beach on Magnetic Island.

Cheers and best

@BobP

Re: Facing Christmas and nye alone

Mornings are the worst for me, I start out bright and happy to do my work, then the voices start up and do their yelling, and mischief and intensify; destroying the peace and tranquility.

They seem to get a weird pleasure out of irritating me.

The voices are evil and sick. Once they get a hold of one's attention they intensify their ugly mannerisms. They follow me around the community and disturb my tranquility and peace of mind. I've been fighting them off for decades, been on a march through hell in my mind, but never give up my faith, and the love of God.

I was recently having a conversation on the phone with an Israeli lady in Israel who said

'It's a dangerous world we all live in'. I can only agree!

I take my meds but to little avail.

Any one else hear the voices too.

Not so cheery
