Christmas/New Year

Christmas/New Year

As I'm sure you're all aware, Christmas is fast approaching. While it’s portrayed in the media as being a ‘wonderful time of the year’, the reality is that for many it’s far from that. For various reasons, Christmas can be a really challenging time. And for those with mental health illness, it can be even more so. We have started to see posts already about anxiety, depression, estrangement, and loneliness in regards to Christmas.

SO, we want to know what you think you might need from us, the staff at SANE. We would love to hear from you about any ideas you may have as to how we can make the Christmas and New Year period more ‘doable’ for you all. Keep in mind also that a lot of the regular peer workers will not be around during this time. What can we do to make this easier for you?

I’ll add these two articles that some may find helpful:

Re: Christmas/New Year

The positive that has come out of this year is how much I have grown as a person and how much strength I have. But I am looking forward to putting this year behind me and I know 2023 will be my year.

Hey @Captain24

You really have come so far! I'm so happy that you can see that. Did you go to the village on the weekend for lunch with Pixie?

2023 WILL be your year, yes!

❤️

Re: Christmas/New Year

Hi @hanami

No I didn’t. I spent most of my weekend in bed. Pixie enjoyed it though because I let her be on the bed with me.

Roll on 2023!

Naw @Captain24 that's ok. Plans are made to be broken, I often do that.

I can imagine Pixie LOVED it!

It may of already been posted somewhere, but what period will the help centre be closed?

Re: Christmas/New Year

Hi @hanami. I too was a bit down on Christmas which I am spending alone but in a lovely location. 🏠 And pet Sitting.

A friend of mine pointed out that I am special by no means and to go to the beach and talk to others in similar circumstances. At worst hang out with the seagulls.

Hey @Dimity that sounds like a very healthy and timely thing to do. I think I am going to copy you!

Maybe we could start a discussion on lessons learnt and goals met in 2022?

Re: Christmas/New Year

Hi @hanami and others. Great suggestion for the thread @hanami . Have a great Christmas break @hanami and I’ll see you around the forums when you return.

To be honest, I’m just grateful for getting through this year and seeing the end of it as it’s been a rough year for me with my mental health. I’ve found a new charity to knit for and I’ve joined a local knitting group which has been really good for me. I’ve been on 2 holidays this year to different parts of Victoria- Bairnsdale and Echuca- with my housemate which I’ve really enjoyed. Seeing Ash Barty win the Australian Open was also great for me as it was exciting and nerve wracking to watch but still a great achievement in Australian sporting history.
