Not Coping

Not Coping

Hey everyone how are you all?

@RiverSeal @Shaz51 @NatureLover @tyme @Former-Member @Eve7 @Former-Member @amber22 @Jynx @FloatingFeather

I'm not doing great at all today. I'm feeling down. I also keep beating myself up for everything and feel like I'm just failing. I need a break from everything. It's getting so hard that I don't know how to keep going anymore especially since I can't talk to anyone around me as they are leaving me or don't understand.

Hope you don’t mind me reaching out I just really need a chat and though I could come on here and vent and talk for a bit.

Thank you

Re: Tw Not Coping

What is it like going to ED @tyme @creative_writer

Re: Tw Not Coping

@tyme, yes, I’ve found it useful too. There are so many services available. I’ve been with HOPE and currently with a care in mind counsellor too. My psych can’t do more regular appointments, and 10 Medicare rebated sessions are so limited.

@Birdofparadise8, last time I went. I waited for hours. It can be stressful, but you have to do it if you feel like you’re at risk. Last time I just got one of my meds upped, and was discharged after that. I’ve been in a short stay ward before too, it was okay.

Mmm okay, I will just have to wait and see @creative_writer

I am not joining the group chat I don't think I can and I wouldn't be much company.

Re: Tw Not Coping

What's it like in Melb??? @Birdofparadise8 - long story short? A super long wait.

So much so that people get so frustrated and walk away none-the-wiser.....

If you DO end up being seen after the long wait, someone for the MH team will speak to you. Then they talk about supports available in the community. You will then be linked in with a number you can contact.

If you pose a danger, then they discuss an admission. At this point, if you refuse AND you pose a danger, an involuntary admission will be organised.

If you are admitted, they keep you over night or so (over the 'danger' period), then most likely release you with contacts in the community. The 'longer' stays are for people who are extremely acute (possibly due to psychosis etc).

I'm talking about the public system. Not the private. Private wouldn't even accept me in the first place due to me being so high-risk.

Re: Tw Not Coping

So is there any point in me going if all I may get is a few numbers to call which I have and am on the waitlist? KHL said I would see a psychiatrist and have a mental health assessment @tyme

Re: Tw Not Coping

KHL was correct. The MH team will do an assessment and then refer you out, or admit. @Birdofparadise8

Yes, i think it IS good to go when you feel you need it because you will then be 'in the system' and on their radar.

If you show up once, they will have you on record and be able to better support you that way.

I remember showing up once, was referred out, then 3 years later, appeared again on the system. They could keep better track of my MH journey...

I'm only speaking from experience. But yes, it will be a long wait most likely for community supports. It won't be a wait list or anything. Community supports will book in times to see you. e.g. the HOPE program @creative_writer was talking about.

I actually know the main psychiatrist overseeing HOPE.

Re: Tw Not Coping

@Birdofparadise8, I hope you can talk to someone soon.

@tyme, I think I did an idiot thing and self-disclosed too much, outside of the forums, of course. Should I delete the message before it gets read? I just needed to say that all to someone but didn’t know who. Now I’ve blabbered too much and I’m probably overburdening my friend😢.

Re: Tw Not Coping

Got through the lady was actually nice gives me more hope than what I got in Hobart.

Have to wait for my GP to send the referral though then I can get things started @creative_writer @tyme

Re: Tw Not Coping

@Birdofparadise8, glade you got someone that you felt comfortable with. Depression is tough, but many of us do get better. It’s all about the right support and self-work.

Re: Tw Not Coping

Yeah I really need my medication looked at because from what my aunt and I have thought is that my suicidal thoughts seem to increase after my meds go up so that might be a contributing factor @creative_writer
