What is "quality of life" ?

What is "quality of life" ?

What is quality of life?

A big question I'm asking as I survive day by day. I want to thrive not just survive. I feel like a rat in a wheel: sleep, eat, work, eat, meds, sleep repeat.

I understand a lot of research says social connections are key but living with a mental illness makes it more difficult to find and keep friends and family.

I am learning I can't rely on other people for my happiness but when I am alone I'm sad. People motivate me to be my best self. I don't seem to have intrinsic self-motivation.

The few people left in my life are drifting away and I don't know how to stop it.

Does anyone relate?

Re: What is "quality of life" ?

I can totally relate to the loneliness, even though I don't have any mental illness. The loneliness has certainly made me suicidal, but this is, IMHO, a rational reaction and not "illness".

Our society isn't well geared towards herding people of a similar mindset and spirit together. I used to just assume that if you made the right, obvious choices, you would just end up with your own people. But it seems like that's not the reality, at all. To have any hope of winding up with your people, you've got to game the system; live a lie, say all the things people want to hear, and just hope that they will respond they way you want them to.

It was always too convoluted for me to figure out. I was never able to figure out what others wanted from me, to begin with.

I could go on and on. I've pondered over this like you wouldn't believe. But I'll keep it short and sweet.

I find that it helps to do things if you have someone to do them with @Patchworks. I usually walk my dog daily but it’s with my parents so I’ve been trying to avoid that lately as much as I can. Do you have nice walks you can go on? Mines just the local park that has a river that runs through it. It is pretty but at the moment is badly flood damaged

Are there any art workshops near you that you could go to?

@Captain24 I walk around the blocks near where I live. There are some pretty bush walks nearby as well.

Your walk sounds very peaceful and calming. I get a lot from being in nature.

I am struggling with finances at the moment so not going to art workshops or gym etc until I get back on top of things.

@chibam loneliness is difficult to deal with as there's no one to talk about it with. I have a counsellor who is very good at listening and helping me overcome my struggles. It doesn't take away the facts that I am lonely or that my quality of life is poor but it helps me deal with it all a bit better. Do you have someone who you talk to?

Can relate to what people are saying @Patchworks @TAB @Captain24 @chibam

I feel like I am just existing at the moment, not living.

I am not even sure why I stick around any more. It seems pointless.

I hope you all can see some light in your day.

I hate that feeling of just existing. Especially when I don’t see any point in it. I’m not really wanted or needed. I feel like no one would even notice.

But we have to keep on existing and hope for better days of living ahead.

Im sitting with you @Snowie.

I know my family would notice @Captain24 but at what stage do I just say no more.

We do have to hope for better days. For better thoughts.

Sitting with you too.

How old are your 2 children @Snowie

Can they give you some strength to keep on fighting?

Re: What is "quality of life" ?

My children are 17 and 15 @Captain24

They are my world. It is the only reason I keep fighting. They are the reason I try to get through each day as best as I can.

Re: What is "quality of life" ?

@Patchworks Short answer to your question is: No, I can't talk to anyone about it. On the few occassions I've blurted out my frustrations, all I get is blame dished out at me: that my loneliness is all my own fault. Allegations that make no sense, as nobody can (or will) describe what I could've done to cultivate a better outcome. And pointless to boot, as, even if mistakes were made in the past, what sense is there in playing the blame game today? The pertinant question is: what can be done to fix the problem?

To touch on the other side of what you were talking about, I'm a very solution-focussed person, and I don't really see any point in talking about a problem for talking's sake. If I were to talk to anyone about it; I'd want that conversation to ultimately lead to set-ups with my kindred spirits. Otherwise, there's no point.
