What is "quality of life" ?

What is "quality of life" ?

What is quality of life?

A big question I'm asking as I survive day by day. I want to thrive not just survive. I feel like a rat in a wheel: sleep, eat, work, eat, meds, sleep repeat.

I understand a lot of research says social connections are key but living with a mental illness makes it more difficult to find and keep friends and family.

I am learning I can't rely on other people for my happiness but when I am alone I'm sad. People motivate me to be my best self. I don't seem to have intrinsic self-motivation.

The few people left in my life are drifting away and I don't know how to stop it.

Does anyone relate?

I totally relate @Patchworks.

I feel like I’m just an empty shell floating away. I’m slowly pushing the few people left in my life away.

We all need some form of social connection but it is really hard. How and where do you start trying to find these connections?

Hi @Captain24 @Patchworks

I can totally relate to what you have both said.

I feel like I have no quality of life. I feel like I am just going through the motions, taking meds, getting up each day, seeing my psych and pdoc. I am pushing people away. My MI has taken over my life.

It is really hard to find those connections and to find people who understand. The Sane forums are really good to connect to people but it is hard not to rely on them. It is hard to find people in person to talk too. I find this really hard.

I feel so alone in this world. So disconnected from who I used to be.

I feel like my MI has taken over as well @Snowie and I’m not who I use to be. I don’t want to be the me I am now.

I really have no one in my life either. I live on my own and have no children just a furbaby. My only saving grace is that I go to work. It’s a 5 on 5 off kind of roster so I have a lot of alone time.

I have only found a couple of connections on here so I still feel alone.

I really hope for you that you can find your people and not feel so alone

I am glad you have work @Captain24 but it is hard when we have no one else.

I live with my hubby and two kids but still feel so alone inside my head. Yes I act the part but it really is not who I am. I struggle with friends.

Please know you are not alone on here. We are a community and are here to support you through the good times and bad times. It is easier on here, people just get it. But to find that in real life is just so hard.

Thanks for your replies. I am sorry that it's the same for you but it does make me feel like I am not the only one.

I tried pursuing hobbies to make friends but so far it hasn't worked out.

It must be so hard to not be alone but feel alone @Snowie.

Lately I’ve been mostly going through bad times and I think that’s why the connections are really hard. People on here do get it but have enough going on themselves.

Work can be a good distraction but I have a lot of alone time and it gives me to much time to think. Which is not always a good thing.

Do you work?

You are definitely not alone @Patchworks

We get it.

What hobbies do you have?

You are certainly not alone @Patchworks we care about you here and are here to support each other.

Time to think can be hard @Captain24 I try and stay busy during the day but it is hard to find the motivation to do things.

I don't work at the moment. I have PTSD from work related issues and from other things too. I would like to get back to work one day but I don't know if that is possible. It certainly doesn't feel like it at the moment.

Re: What is "quality of life" ?

I get the no motivation @Snowie. The only reason I get out of bed on my days off is because I have to take the dog outside to go to the toilet. Then all I do is sit around.

It’s so hard to motivate yourself when you’re just not feeling it!

My hobbies are walking and art like drawing, painting and going to art galleries.

I find other people motivate me to do things. Like meeting someone to walk with is easier than just taking myself for a walk.
