Juggling Life

Juggling Life

It feels like at the moment I am juggling my mental health, trying to do all the right things to not be depressed and deal with my ocd and eating disorder stuff, but no matter how hard I try, I always drop something. Last week I had a big event, which exhausted me but I put a lot of focus on dealing with ptsd stuff and making sure I ate every meal, but it has meant that my compulsions are getting worse. It's exhausting and I wish I could just take a break from it all as its been over 10 years of feeling this way, but if I try and not deal with it, everything comes crashing down and I just get even worse. Does anyone else feel this way?

Hi @LittleWren

Welcome to the forums and thank you for sharing your story! I'm one of the peer workers here on the forums. It sounds like you are trying so hard to manage your mental health and doing a great job, but might need some extra support. That's totally understandable as you have quite a few different diagnoses you are dealing with.

Have you got a psychologist, GP or other health professional that you see regularly about your mental health issues? It's probably a good idea to reach out to one of them. You could also talk to one of our counsellors here at SANE if you are interested in that? Here are the contact details https://www.sane.org/counselling-support

There are some wonderful forum members here you can connect with and find lots of support and friendship. Here is the link to the social spaces that you might like to post in https://saneforums.org/t5/Social-Spaces/bd-p/le-forum-0003

I'll also tag some of our regular members who might be able to offer advice.

Looking forward to seeing you around

Re: Juggling Life

Hi @LittleWren,

It sounds like things are pretty overwhelming for you at the moment. I have to say after reading your post I am really impressed with your commitment to do what you can to take care of your mental health. I don't think it's surprising that you may have dropped a ball or two in the process - I think most people would in your position, especially when you are exhausted and you have been doing it for so long.

I think you should give yourself a lot of credit that despite all that is going on you sound like you are still doing everything you can to take care of yourself. Is there something you can do today or this week to do something nice for you? Maybe something that may help you relax - it sounds like you have earned it 🙂.

All the best,

FloatingFeather

Re: Juggling Life

Hello @LittleWren and welcome. My situation is different but I know the sense of struggle and trying to keep depression at bay.

Celebrate the small wins - you successfully dealt with your event and you've kept on track with your meals - but it can't be easy also facing intrusive obsessions and ptsd.

Some people here talk about having a toolkit of strategies to draw on. It might include mindfulness practices, pleasant selfcare activities, getting in touch with supportive friends and family (and this forum) and distracting ourselves with hobbies or entertainment.

The forums have factsheets and resources on specific topics and some archived discussions you can search for on living with eating disorders and other conditions - maybe @Bow can help guide you.

Best wishes

Dimity

Re: Juggling Life

Hi @hanami, thank you for welcoming me. I see my psychologist once a month, as due to all the harm other health professionals have caused me I can't handle anyone else, it was a disaster last time I tried to see a GP. I have also talked to some of the SANE counsellors, I have found them to be helpful.

@FloatingFeather thank you for the encouragement, I've spent today resting and distracting myself with video games.

@Dimity thank you. I do already know a lot about my conditions and I have already had a look through some of the factsheets here but thanks for pointing them out.

Re: Juggling Life

Our story arcs a bit comparable @LittleWren . Capacity building has so many levels. One level I've been underestimating is that trying, almost always, means dropping things, no matter who we are.

I think, no matter who you are, having permission to fail, is kind of essential. In a way the difference between the MH and non-MH community is whether failure occurs within normalized parameters. (But that's a bit of a half-thought out digression)

Anyway, giving oneself an error margin, seems to help. I also feel like adding that the best systems to work for are the systems that work for you.

Hi @tyme I'm okay I guess, some stuff in my life has brought back a lot of terrible memories and that has been hard.
