Recovery after a high energy episode

Recovery after a high energy episode

After about 6 weeks of being very high energy (what some call “Hypomania”) I am now on the other side. My energy is gone.

Its Sunday arvo and I have to be back at work tomorrow morning but I can hardly get out of bed as I am so depleted and exhausted.

Does anyone know of some ways to support myself to recover quicker? Or is it a matter of acceptance and riding it out?

thanks so much for any advice or ideas

@Little_Leopard thanks for explaining.

The term “hypomania” is a lot more than mood- there are heaps of physical symptoms too.

I don’t use that term much as it sounds like a disease and I don’t see my extra energy as being pathological. I respond to stress by upregulating my energy and this has been greatly enhanced by trauma.

It helped me through a tough time and now I need to recover. As quickly as possible as there is only 11 hours before work starts.

I have managed to pick up a bit since I posted my opening post. Unfortunately, it’s right before bedtime. My circadian rhythm needs some support for sure!

Hi @Cuddlefish. I understand that hypomania is much more than mood.

What I said is that hypomania related to mood and mood disorders. Where as hypo arousal is related to trauma and is a PTSD symptom. That is a simple way to explain the difference to someone who is asking.

Listen to your body. If it needs rest then you need to respect that.

You are doing great. I hope you recover quickly. Take it easy .

Ah gotcha, thanks for explanation. I misread as hyperarousal, so was struggling to see difference. Very groggy and not good communication on my part, sorry for that.

Now the high energy time is gone, my Body clock is so out of wack. I think just keeping a good routine is important right now to entrain myself back to normal rhythms.

@tyme thank you so much for following up. I cannot explain how tired I am. I have energy for the basics but nothing else. The physical symptoms and discomfort of mental and physical issues can be overwhelming.

I’m responding by making a garden, getting sun, connecting with loved ones, (including pets)

I’m looking at adjusting my diet to include more foods that give energy and nutrition and less processed.

So very tired but also very determined to support myself
