Re: Complex PTSD

hi @Laralix

welcome to Sane. I am so sorry you have been through childhood and adult abuse.

I too was abused sexually as a child 9-12yrs old; then again at about 18yr old on a train while going to work.

All these memories surfaced for me about 10 yrs ago when i was in my 40's. I had suppressed it all those years. I sought help from a psych and psychologist and still seeing them.

Are you getting any professional help?

take care, happy to chat to you xxx

Re: Complex PTSD

hey @Laralix, welcome to the forums. There are a few folks in the community with similar experiences, so I'm really glad you've already been able to connect with dear @BlueBay ❤️ Thank you for sharing a bit about your story here, it can be a big step to reach out for support in a new place like the forums.

You're not alone in having feelings or memories resurface after years. I know for me it can come in waves after something reminds. Is there something in particular you want to talk about?

And I thought I'd just share the our guidelines in case you haven't seen them. Abuse is something that impacts so many, so it's important to talk about it in a safe way. This will mean more people can join the conversation. Often this means focussing on our feelings or responses to events, instead of the details of abuse ❤️

Welcome again,

Re: Complex PTSD

Hi @Laralix Sometimes it is when we are most detached from something that it hits the hardest. It can also be our way of facing things when we are completely out of it. When we are dealing with such big things it is common to shut off those emotions and feelings and therefore they come out when we are in a better place (physically and emotionally) to deal with them. PTSD can also hit at any time - sometimes years later and by what we would ordinarily not see as triggers. Our brains work in mysterious ways sometimes!

You will find many people here living with and dealing with PTSD and complex PTSD - so you are not alone.

Welcome to the forums 😁
