Something’s not right

Struggling: TW suicide

Struggling: TW suicide

I have been struggling a lot lately with suicidal thoughts. It’s become a daily occurrence and it’s been really overwhelming to cope. I am safe right but having to fight this is very exhausting. I feel so trapped, I am tired of living in pain, fear and shame. I feel like a burden to people and unimportant.

@tyme I do have professional supports but I don’t really feel comfortable talking to my tutors about it. I know they say that they are happy to talk to us if something does trigger us, but I don’t know them. I just hope that restarting emdr would help ease the burden a bit. I’ve contemplated dropping to part time, but I am really hoping I won’t need to, I do have a while until the withdraw fail starts.

@Former-Member I mean I been exploring strategies to cope with stress but sometimes
I just feel like I’m all alone. I know there are probably other mental health professionals who have their own history of MI. Sometimes I just want someone to understand, and be held. But we all don’t get that luxury.

I hear that @creative_writer, I'm sorry that you've been feeling all alone in this. We're here to listen ❤️

If it helps, I just deferred uni for this trimester because it all felt like too much. It was a really difficult decision, but I'm glad I made it.

And I guarantee you that there are plenty of MH professionals with histories of MI. Not everyone shows it (or is allowed to in certain professions), but I know that we're here.

Sitting with you and listening ❤️

@Former-Member ❤️.I do think that many people feel as though they are not allowed to show they are struggling with MI. Some people would expect us to have our shit together because we are in the mental health field. At the moment I’m thinking about what to do about uni, not entirely sure at this stage.

Like you said earlier @creative_writer, there is time to figure that out with census date still a while away ❤️

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

And yeah, I totally agree that a lot of people want to hide their own experiences @creative_writer. It's kind why I struggle with the idea of "professionalism" and having to be "professional" because I feel like, traditionally, thats excluded a lot of peoples experiences and increases stigma. I feel like it's so important to bring ourselves to this work as much as we can. I know that there is a growing number of people who are doing that both in peer work and in other areas of MH. I know for me, that whatever I do with my degree, I want to just be myself and be honest with people about my own experiences. Because I definitely don't always have my life together and my MH still gets crap.

Anyway, idk if any of my rambling helps, but I hope it maybe made you feel less alone today ❤️

@Former-Member❤️census date is on Friday but fail date is later on next month. So I was thinking more in the lines, if things get worse between census and fail date, hoping it won’t. I can drop a unit or so and apply for fee remission.

I want to see if I can fix my sleep quality, would be so much easier to focus, and will help with mood and anxiety.

I could get extensions for the upcoming assignments for a decent amount of time.

@Former-Member I think it’s also a personal preference on how much you reveal to your clients. I think it also depends on the nature of the work. A peer mentor is different to a psychologist or social worker. I think it’s about working on your professional identity and knowing what you feel is comfortable and okay for you.

Having a weird moment right now. Just feel so lost. I feel like nobody really see me. It’s a very isolating experience. I have people around me but I feel so alone in my pain.

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

So true @creative_writer . I used to have too many people around me - so much so that I felt lonely.

Now, I don't have anyone around me, but I don't feel lonely whatsoever.

At least we are here to support each other,

tyme

@tyme I feel you on that one. I can handle being on my own, it’s my preferred option, I guess I’m also so used to it. But it’s painful being surrounded by people and not being able to be seen or being able to connect.
