Something’s not right

Struggling: TW suicide

Struggling: TW suicide

I have been struggling a lot lately with suicidal thoughts. It’s become a daily occurrence and it’s been really overwhelming to cope. I am safe right but having to fight this is very exhausting. I feel so trapped, I am tired of living in pain, fear and shame. I feel like a burden to people and unimportant.

@creative_writer I'm glad you're just keeping it really low-energy then. I wish I was in bed haha.

Sounds like something maybe worth chatting to your treating team/psych about? No shame in going back to something that was working.

@Jynx it just might make it easier to cope. I’m at the point in time where I can’t really do much, constantly too exhausted, achy and stressed. I am at breaking point 😢.

In my opinion @creative_writer that's the whole point of medication - making it easier to cope with day-to-day, and give us the breathing room to then be able to start working on other stuff. Needing meds to cope is not weakness, and whilst maybe a long-term goal might be to no longer need them, that depends entirely on an individuals' situation - i.e. not needing meds does not have to be some goal everyone is striving for.

Sending big piles of hugs to you friend 💜

@Jynx I feel like my neurotransmitters are strange. My brain isn’t very good at regulating circadian rhythms and mood. Stress, disruption of routines, improper light exposure can all cause a lot of chaos. I’ve been under a lot of stress, I have c-ptsd and bad social anxiety, and long summer days can give me too much energy. I have been more prone bad energy as opposed to the euphoric mood state lately. I have also been sick too. I want to eventually get off meds and be stable without them. Even if I am able to get there, I will need to be really careful with my triggers.

Amazing the effect the seasons can have on us hey? Some of my friends with bipolar often state their mania can worsen in the hotter months, and Seasonal Affective Disorder is totally a thing.

Trauma can make us really reactive - acting like a faulty alarm system, pinging at the most minuscule things and making us feel like everyday things are a danger. That is a struggle that can be hard to explain, and even harder to live through/manage. Especially hard at times to try to explain to others - social anxiety is ROUGH. One of my favourite quotes is from (of all people, haha) Dr Seuss - "The people who mind don't matter, and the people who matter don't mind." Helped me start to work through some of my own anxieties, reminding myself that no one is ever judging me as harshly as I am.

Hope you're finding ways to keep cool today hey x

@Jynx I feel like I haven’t really been getting those true manic episodes. I have been experiencing a lot of agitation along with my depressive episodes. Maybe it’s a mixed state, I don’t know. Whatever it is, It chews up my brain. I am trying to get into a psychiatrist that specialises in bipolar, will try to sort that out ASAP. Just need to confirm he is taking new patients, can call Tom, hopefully offices will be open by then. Trauma and social anxiety can add to the complexities of mood instability. I do wonder if my trauma issues are what worsened my mood instability last year. It is true that we tend to be really harsh on ourselves, and the people who do judge are often too frustrating and toxic to have in your life.

@creative_writer look up 'hypomania' - might resonate? And yeah probably worth exploring with your psych hey. The more we know ourselves, the better we can find the right tools to help us grow. 😊💜

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

@JynxI have experienced pure hypomanic episodes in the past, never got to full blown mania before. But my symptoms have been strange lately, that I am wondering if I have become sensitive to experienced mixed mood states, ie., have both hypomanic and depressive episodes occur simultaneously. Maybe that’s why the PRN helps too, since it’s an antipsychotic that balances out mood.
