Something’s not right

Struggling: TW suicide

Struggling: TW suicide

I have been struggling a lot lately with suicidal thoughts. It’s become a daily occurrence and it’s been really overwhelming to cope. I am safe right but having to fight this is very exhausting. I feel so trapped, I am tired of living in pain, fear and shame. I feel like a burden to people and unimportant.

@Snowie it is hard when supports are away. I get what you mean with not wanting to bother your psych. My psych is also moving so is busy with that. I do think your ARE worthy of help.

When I was intensive treatment I was suggested that it’s good to have multiple supports rather than one. But who else can I be fully open with? I know there is a service here that has a long waitlist, but I never put myself on the waitlist because I didn’t want to waste their time, I wasn’t sure if I would ever feel comfortable talking about what happened. SA is very personal to talk about and I need to feel safe in order to talk about it. The counsellor I’m seeing right now does know that I’ve experienced some form of trauma, experience depression, and have had SI and SH thoughts.

I couldn't agree more @creative_writer

I too have suffered from SA and am very careful about who I open up too. It has taken me quite a long time to feel comfortable with my psych to be able to tell her things. And even then I am very careful about what I say.

I also find living in a small town hard to access local supports. I have to travel 45mins every time I want to see my psych and about an hour to see my pdoc.

It is certainly hard to find people who can be in our small trust circle. I hope you find someone you can talk too

@Snowie finding good professional supports is also important. I went through a few psychs before I got to this one. Same with my retired pdoc. I am repeating the process again for pdocs now. I generally struggle to find people I can trust, feel comfortable with and open up to. But the reality is, cptsd can feed my bipolar and vice versa. I need to stabilise but I need to work on healing in order to go that. Stress is a big trigger for mood episodes.

It is difficult @creative_writer but you are being so proactive in finding those people we can trust. I hope for your mental and physical health that you can find the supports you deserve.

Stress can be a huge trigger. I find this time of year so stressful too.

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

@SnowieI don’t find the festive season all that stressful because I don’t do Christmas, however, the long days can screw up my circadian rhythm. I can go into a very agitated depressive state, the kind that feels like manic and depressive symptoms simultaneously, so I have to be super careful with light exposure. I seem to be more prone to mixed states than hypomania right now. I can always bring up what supports might be available with my psych during my next appointment. I just have to keep trying with a psychiatrist, some of them are no longer taking new clients and the ones that are have long wait lists. I hope you do find some relief soon, the festive season can be stressful for a lot of people 💞

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

It might be a wise idea to bring it up with your psych at your next session @creative_writer

It is hard to find good supports. Even harder when the good ones are not taking any more patients, or we have to go on a wait list. I hope you find someone soon.

The festive season is very stressful. I would much rather hide away but do the family thing for my kids. I want it to be special for them.

@Snowie I also hate how they have reduce the Medicare rebated sessions to 10. Psych appointments are really expensive. It must be really hard to keep it hidden away while trying to make it special for your kids. I admire your strength.

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

Sorry @creative_writer Was cooking dinner for the kids.

It is hard reducing the medicare rebate just to 10 sessions. That does not get you far.

I hope this afternoon has been a little better for you

Re: Struggling: TW suicide

@Snowie all good. I had dinner just now. Fish and mixed vegetables. What did you cook?

I did spend some time watching tv for a bit and listened to music. I still feel shit, but it’s just how it is. A lot has been going on today. I know shame is a common trauma response. I can’t really help but blame myself that things didn’t turn out the way I wanted them. I grew up in A practicing Muslim household and still live with my immediate family, dating was off limits. I could not kiss or even hug guys. I’ve never been in a relationship. I’ve been alright with all that. When the time comes, I’ll still get a chance to get to know the one before I marry. But it made the whole SA even more painful. I feel so ashamed, like I felt like it shouldn’t have happened, like I’ve done something wrong, like I am dirty and unworthy now. All this time I was saving myself for someone safe and meaningful.

That sounds yummy @creative_writer

I had pumpkin gnocchi with blue cheese sauce. It was actually really easy to make and tasty. Better yet everyone ate it!

Shame is a common response. I blame myself for what happened, for not speaking up, for not stopping it. Of course my psych says it wasn't my fault and that I cannot blame myself but that is easier said then done.

I hope someday you meet someone that is worthy to be with you. You deserve someone that will love you for who you are, regardless of your upbringing.

I am going to head of now and go to bed. I have to get up early in the morning so best I get some sleep.

Thank you for keeping me company today. It has made a difference for me and has helped keep me safe. I hope you are able to get some sleep tonight and tomorrow is a better day for you. It was so nice to connect with you today 💜
