World Mental Health Day

World Mental Health Day

This morning I have written a post on facebook regarding World Mental Health Day. I decided after such a long time of suffering that I was going to let it out; put it out there for everyone to see. I don't care anymore about hiding my mental illness; i don't what others think anymore. Because I know that I am the one going through it; i am the one who has to deal with it. I am not ashamed of what I wrote and I am not worried what others will say.

Hope this gives others inspiration and encouragement to just speak out. It's not taboo anymore.

Today is World Mental Health Day. If anyone is suffering a mental illness please reach out and seek help. There are caring professionals who have the right tools to help you. There should be no stigma attached to mental illness but unfortunately there still is. And this is why today is an important day. To spread the word; to know it's okay if you don't feel okay.
You're probably thinking how do I know? I was diagnosed with depression, anxiety, ptsd and BPD six years ago and I still struggle daily but I know that with the help of my husband and children I will get through this. I also have a caring and supportive professional team who understand me and I have some amazing friends who have stuck by me and are always there for me.
There is no shame with having a mental illness. This is why I decided to write this today. xxoo

Good for you, @BlueBay!

You are very brave!

A friend of mine posts on facebook quite a lot about her PTSD and I admire her too. She has a lot of supportive comments whenever she posts.

Hugs to you.

I'm so impressed with how you have grown in strength these last couple of months @BlueBay.
I have over 30 likes on the local community facebook page I posted to. And these are the people in town I don't know. And the Admin staff who monitor that page keep placing my post at the top of the page - so it's the first one people are seeing.
See, there are people that are understanding and happy to support this important week.

Re: World Mental Health Day

Wish I had your courage Sadgirl,as I have had one of my bad depressed days, hiding away from the world with awful thoughts.I never married, had kids, and pretty much a loner.I avoid people because I don't want anyone asking questions, feel I keep myself "safe"in this way but I know not talking to anyone there is no one there to talk to which feeds the illness and irrational thoughts.I just had a email for a potential job interview, wondering how I'm going to present myself or get the confidence and be able to work ,but know at the same time if I don't get a job soon and before Xmas,I don't want to see 2017.Promised the psychologist last week I would go to hospital next month if I was still suffering due to being at high risk. The fact that you have or are trying to break down the walls of isolation means you are on the road to recovery and/or perhaps accept that you are who you are. This is a hard thing for many people to accept.

Thanks Utopia but after 4 years I wonder if it's worth putting myself through it.Im that down. The psychologist last week asked me where I could see myself in the future...I could not answer.Thats the amount of hopelessness I feel.

Re: World Mental Health Day

Hi @Former-Member

Until the last few years if any therapist would have asked me "about future plans" I would have been confronted and silenced and thrown into an internal swirl of dialogue.

It has taken the alignment of quite a few things in my life for me to start to feel that I have a future.

Maybe therapists could try and be a little more subtle in the way they bring such concepts into the therapuetic alliance.

If the timing is inappropriate and one's feelings are very raw .. it can be a very intrusive question.

So I am glad they did not ask it of me.

Well done @BlueBay for your inspiring courage. I too wrote a short blurb on world mental health today on my Facebook page. I've so far had mixed results.

Re: World Mental Health Day

@Former-Member. Is the pressure to work due to finances or the need to be doing something useful & fulfilling? Personal question. You don't have to answer that.
Mine is a mixture of both. I am behind on some bills - some big ones which causes stress and doesn't help with my moods. But then I haven't been able to go back to the workforce because I was too sick.
So I can understand. And I'm bored at home and I think work will help get me into a better routine.
I'm sorry to hear that you feel such hopelessness. It's hard to read that. It brings back when I was at that point.
I wish there was some way I could fix this for you. Because I know how hard it can be.
What support do you c have around you? Friends or family? A case worker or gp as well as your psychologist?
