Jude’s Jungle

Jude’s Jungle

Hi there forumite friends! Welcome to the thread I’ve titled Jude’s Jungle which is basically a personal discussion thread whereby I can come and post things that are on my mind and as a safe space for me to connect and belong to. I’m a Community Guide here and have been for 2 years but this is my first time having a personal page here in the forums related specifically to me and my mental health illnesses and recovery journey.

I’ve called this area a jungle as I feel that there are parts of my mental health recovery journey and subsequent 3 mental illnesses - depression, schizophrenia and Borderline Personality Disorder- that can be scary at times and have weird yet wonderful things happen to me, kinda like animals appearing out of nowhere in a jungle of sorts and having to deal with them. There are many different things that I experience in the form of episodes and I’d line to think that by having this area, I can safely get the thoughts out and maybe feel less scared or concerned about what’s going on in my life.

Feel free to comment if you like on anything I mention here. Like I said, it’s a personal page but any comments are welcome and I appreciate your views and thoughts to things I may post.

To start things off with, I’ve included a photo of the Lego critters I made from a Lego kit I purchased yesterday afternoon after having a dream of wanting to play with and build with Lego. I was never really interested in Lego as a kid and therefore never had any Lego to play with as a child (I’m more crafty and love knitting and crochet with the occasional bit of cross stitch added for good measure although I also like drawing abstract designs and colouring them in as well to help me relax) so to buy some Lego yesterday was a real treat. I had at least an hour reading the instructions and putting together the bricks to make the creatures and was amazed at how bricks can make different creatures with cute looks! I think Lego will become part of my coping strategies tool kit selection from now on. Maybe you like using and playing with Lego yourself? Lego definitely isn’t just for kids as I discovered yesterday afternoon with the fun I had with it!

Thanks for taking the time to read this discussion thread!

Take care and stay safe!

Re: Jude’s Jungle

  • That all sounds good @Judi9877 except for the Pepsi max but we live and learn.

I love the crocheted squares that you do. It sounds like PARCS is all going to plan for you and I’m really happy for you.

Hope you get a good sleep tonight my friend.

Re: Jude’s Jungle

@Judi9877 so glad your decision to go to PARCs is working well! And you "small achievement" is a really great win ❤️

With the new course, it sounds like you've researched and found something that really meets all your needs and timeframes. I know that your experiences and knowledge will be so valuable in that industry.

And wow, I relate to pulling apart the crochet! I knitted a hat last week and it's too big. I need to unravel it tomorrow and I think I'll feel so much better for doing that!

Re: Jude’s Jungle

Hi @Judi9877,

So nice to read that you are doing okay and feeling more positive. Your knitting and crocheting work is amazing! The colours of the wool in your granny blanket are beautiful.

I totally agree with you when you say the small achievements count. I think small, manageable achievements are what lead to big achievements. I feel when you look at a big task it can feel so overwhelming but if you break it down to small, doable steps you've found one of the tricks in tackling a lot of those big tasks!

The aged care course sounds like a great idea for you and the course sounds manageable. I really admire your determination and drive to push forward @Judi9877. You really are an inspiration!

Look forward to reading how you are getting on and celebrating your achievements with you.

Best wishes,

FloatingFeather

Re: Jude’s Jungle

Good morning @FloatingFeather @Former-Member @Oaktree @MDT @Appleblossom @Former-Member @hanami @Former-Member @Shaz51 @TAB and all those here today. Just thought I’d do a quick update on what’s been going on in my life here at PARCS.

- My meds got slightly changed and one of the tablets is taking time to work

- I’ve been doing meditation at night for half an hour before bed

- I’ve been working on my blanket and trying to get it completed as the charity I knit for desperately needs blankets

- I knitted 2 beanies for 2 residents here and gave them to them on Tuesday night

- I had a weekend of no boredom last weekend

- I’ve investigated a new course on Monday to look more into next week

- I ordered more wool on special at Spotlight for a male blanket last night to knit in the future when it arrives via home delivery

- I’m slowly learning to fill in my time during the day with having a set goal each day to focus on which at the moment is blankets for the chosen charity

- I’ve learnt that my boredom times are a period during the morning and mid afternoon so I’m trying to make plans on how to fix this problem

- I had a session with the PARCS psychologist on Tuesday which was really good and she gave me some cards to keep with me in my phone and on a piece of paper to put up in my room about things to do when negative thoughts happen (like distraction strategies of sorts)

- I’ve caught up with my key worker several times which has been good as I’ve learnt some things from him

- The mouse problem at home has been sorted out with the pest exterminator coming out on Tuesday that my housemate arranged - I’m learning that I have to pick up my standards in relation to household chores and do them when I get home on Tuesday and not leave them to my housemate

- I’ve got to try and not stress about sleeping as it only makes the problem worse at night in relation to meds

- I’m trying a new thing today whereby I’m trying to keep myself entertained until bedtime tonight with me waking up at 7:30 and doing some of my own personal knitting for an hour before getting ready

- I have learnt that I have to allow myself time to work on my own knitting projects each day instead of just focusing on charity and friends projects which makes me feel happy.

- Crocheting has really helped me these past few days as it’s helped calm me down and relax me.

That’s all for me right now. I’ll talk more later!

Hi @Judi9877

It sounds like you are in a much more positive state of mind. I struggle with boredom too. When I am bored I often go to bed. As a result I am often in bed by around 7pm and my husband will bring me my 10pm medication. It’s really a bad habit to be in but I just don’t know what to do with my time!

Re: Jude’s Jungle

Morning @Oaktree,

Do you have any hobbies? My grandmother used to knit every night whilst watching tv and I would enjoy watching her hands move skillfully with each click of the needles 😊 Not everyone has the knack or interest in craft, but wondering what sorts of things spark your interest?
