In which way do you suggest,Sane could help improve the treatment of Mentally Ill in Public Hospitals?

In which way do you suggest,Sane could help improve the treatment of Mentally Ill in Public Hospitals?

From my research, and things I have seen in the past, stigma is still very present from Hospital staff and/or Ambulance workers towards people with Mental Illnesses, particularly Hospitals in more suburban areas outside of the main cities.
They are still treated very poorly and spoken to disrespectfully, and bystanders will say nothing out of fear of retribution or fear of ridicule.
I don't think any of the recent attempts to end stigma has "touched" these Hospitals at all as they are oblivious that these anti stigma campaigns even exist.
For example, these staff members are more likely to watch forty on TV as opposed to watching Abc Mental As programme or the Q and A programme about depression etc.

What ideas do you have that Sane could do to help expose and address the stigmatising/discrimatory attitudes that still exists at these suburban Public Hospitals?

My idea is that Sane could create a detailed survey questionnaire that would ask people who have been patients of these hospitals to rate out of 1-5 how respectfully they were treated, what tone they were talked to,what their experience was etc...
But Sane should give these surveys out in the hospitals grounds and not just online so they could reach people's views who may otherwise not go online or have access to or cognitive ability to use the internet.

That way, organisations like Sane would have a greater idea into what problems still exist, and in what areas, and be able to create a plan to counter them because sometimes I feel the only people that are tuned into "anti stigma campaigns" are people that either have a mental illness, their families or people that already believe mentally ill shouldn't be stigmatised against, but the "perpertrators" themselves are actually tuned out,if this makes sense.

Well, yes, but you have people's email addresses and can share them if both parties are willing.

Yes, re the link - thank you but as the sufferer of a health condition/disabiity, as soon as i am experiencing a flare-up of my condition i wish i did not immediately have to 'know my rights'. i shouldn't be in the position of having to be 'advocated for' when i am experiencing ill health - i obviously need treatment in that situation, not the removal of my rights to freedom and safety from violence and the addition of new, stupid rights than cannot be and are not observed by the mental health system anyway - the whole situation is completely stupid, and very, very wrong.

Where does it say that you cannot email bloggers each other's email addresses if both parties request it or is SANE that inflexible? (And I apologise if that sounds confronting).

Hi @Terry

The privacy policy outlines that information will not be provided to a third party.

When signing up to the Forums Terms & Conditions are agreed to, which includes being anonymous - this is regardless of whether people do or do not want to be anonymous.

For SANE, this means we cannot be responsible for sharing personal details of any members - regardless of consent and whether it's technically on the Forums or through email. As you have signed up for the Forums service, the guidelines, privacy policy and our requirements under our funding agreement are what we are responsible for following - whether it be via email or on the Forums.

I hope this clarifies. Sorry that we're unable to fulfill your request.

Kind Regards,

Nik

OK, I give up - 'a third party' actually refers to selling or giving contact details to external individuals or organisations. SANE is in no way bound not to email contact details to bloggers who want to get in touch with each other but you obviously don't understand that or won't go out of your way to help. I'll drop the subject.

No worries Terry.

Maybe the best (most effective)thing would be to either speak to the Mental Health Commision about what you think should be changed/what laws should be implimented or to see if there was a way to apply to be a Mental Health Commisioner yourself.

That way you would have more "clout" with politicians.
