Rough day today

Rough day today

Well I woke up this morning and my heart was racing and I felt scared. There’s no reason why, I’ve got up and cried. I hate it when this low point hits me. I want to be a happy normal mum and grandma, not someone on an emotional roller coaster, not at my age where I feel that my life should be a bit more sorted at the very least. Last night my husband who I’m not close too at all was drunk again so maybe that’s it. He’s already gone this morning but filled the fridge with beer ready for tonight. I don’t drink so I don’t understand the need for his constant drinking that makes him so mean. People can say leave but go to what and where? I can’t support myself and help look after my mum and babysit grandsons for our daughters while they work. I at least want them to have good lives. These down times make me sick inside. I feel like an absolute failure today.

Re: Rough day today

Omg I can so relate to how you feel. I am also 53 and left my Husband after 22 years because of his constant drinking. I supported my Mum till she passed and also help My Daughters with their children so we walk similar paths. I now live alone and work to support myself but years of struggle, DV and historical sexual abuse have seen me crash and make wrong choices form a gambling habit and I am pretty much anti social. But I’ve decided enough is enough and I reached out to counsellors and am now ready to address all of the above issues to make me whole again. I hit rock bottom before I reached out so I’m hoping to see light through the clouds. Never give up there is help for us all and we are not alone lost maybe but not alone 🙂

Re: Rough day today

Really glad that @Shame could relate and posted.

It is so sad that you have put up with the meanness and drinking for so long, that it took a bit to connect your mood and tears to his behaviour and addiction. That alone shows how internally strong you are and explains a bit of the roller coaster. Also supporting younger generations is a huge contribution. I feel conflicted about ever suggesting people break up their marriages. Its not an easy road or choice. I also feel a little angry that women in this day and age, absorb such negativity as a matter of course, and so hide the pathology of a common behaviour that many men think is normal ....

Take Care

Gently Bently is often my advice ...

Re: Rough day today

We do walk similar paths, life hasn’t been easy for me. After getting married at 21 to my husband who was 27 with an already failed marriage and one daughter behind him I thought I was ready. I didn’t know him for that long but was young and headstrong and despite my mum saying not to do it, in I went. We had three daughters in four years and for awhile life was okay. Then and it’s a long complicated story, aren’t they all, he cheated at 19 years of marriage came back after lying to me just before our 20 th anniversary and here we are at 31 years this year. I think we’ve probably been happy maybe 10 of these years. He yells drinks and lies. I was once strong and outspoken now I’m too tired, too scared and just can’t be bothered most of the time. I focus on other things in my life, my girls my grandsons my animals but feel like I’m drowning some days. He drinks and drives but never gets pulled up and I think how can he get away with this? Even though it would mean he couldn’t get to work and stuff I actually want him to be held accountable. He’s the only person I know that gets away with everything. He lies to his family who think he’s just fine, no one is interested in what I say so I’ve given up. What’s the point, you just end up looking like some desperate idiot. People say move out, so firstly our daughter, son in law and one grandson live here in our rented house while they build their home. I have no education, I look after my grandsons I have no money of my own and certainly not enough to run a home. Rentals aren’t even cheap anymore. It’s sad that women still live dependent on men and scared but it does happen. Thank you for the support and letting me know I’m not alone. This is my safe place, to say how I really feel without fear so it means a lot to me. No one will judge you here, only offer help. I just want to escape for awhile

Re: Rough day today

Sure sounds tough @Anna53 . It's a lot for one person to go through.

Do you have any supports around you who you can talk to? Not necessarily to get answers, but to off-load some of what is on your chest? Sometimes, this can help clear all the clutter within thoughts.

Whatever it is, I'm glad you've been able to offload some of it here today. I'm sure you'll soon realise, if you haven't already, that you are not alone. It seems to be a common but unfortunate circumstance many people face.

Sitting with you,

tyme

Re: Rough day today

I am saddened by your story @Anna53 as I grew up in that type of situation and my memories of my mother tipping beer out of the fridge, crying her eyes out remain with me. We would beg her to leave but she was determined to stay until “ death do us part”.

I have no answers for you but I hear what you are saying and am sending you an armful of love today.

Re: Rough day today

Hi, I don’t really have a support network and if I started from the beginning my life would be some kind of strange book. I thought I’d have a better life I really did, but it’s just got worse. I hide in my room like a teenager from a loud husband who loves the sound of his own voice. I have issues with anxiety anyway but it’s made worse by these times when he’s verbally abusive and I’m scared. Thanks for the support it all helps, honestly ❤️❤️
