Welcome and getting started

Chronic alcohol withdrawal

Chronic alcohol withdrawal

hi everyone, I stumbled across this site trying to find information or like minded people who have experienced chronic alcohol withdrawal. I have been drinking around 20 beers a day, everyday for the past 9 years. I recently decided that I’ve had enough and it’s time for the booze to go. It’s been 3 days. Im still having about 3-4 light beers a day with diazepam but it’s not really doing anything ive been somewhat hallucinating, seeing little bugs that aren’t there, permanent pain in my ankles and legs, still sore after 3 days. Hot and cold sweats every minute at least, panic attacks, struggling to sleep longer than about 30 minutes. Has anyone experienced similar and did they suffer any long term side effects? I’m scared I might be a candidate for sudden death. Cheers guys hope your all doing well!

Re: Chronic alcohol withdrawal

Hey @Ugly_Trout Apologies for the late reply, I relapsed 😞 only very slightly though. On Sunday my housemates where drinking and i had 7 and the day after another 7 and last night 7 again 😞 I've only had 2 tonight though. I dont live in the best environment to quit but I've put the hammer down with the house mates now, It's hard because 1 of them in particular has NO respect for what I'm doing or well trying to do and how hard it actually is for some people. That doesn't help, they are also really messy, someone left a broom next to the backdoor and i managed to tangle my lanky ass feet up in it walking passed somehow and i fell straight to the floor on the concrete smashing my elbow stupidly hard, cant even move my arm! sucks being tall, fall bloody hard haha. I'm going to see my doctor tomorrow for blood tests and a few others, I'm going to tell him the truth and i guess ill have to start again. It's better than 20-30 beers a night so its a start, I'm very disappointed with myself and i feel as if i have betrayed myself after going through 4 days of hell on earth. I have a feeling the worst MAY be over for me. How have you been going matey? I hope all is well with you and if you need anyone to talk to yourself, I'll always be here mate 🙂

Keep up your vigilance on your intake and don't be hard on yourself. @Blackteeth . Maybe in the mornings journal why you drank but also how it's made you feel. Have you tried smart recovery? I think they could be worth looking at? Hope you're doing ok 🙂

@Blackteeth

20-30 beers down to about 3 per day is a GREAT improvement in less than a month.

Environment matters when working on this kind of thing ...

@Blackteeth It is an amazing change from the starting point to your usage now. Be proud of that as @Appleblossom has said. Every time you try to stop or do reduce, it's important not to think too badly about using what amounts to 10-20% of your history of drinking. So well done

@Ugly_Trout @Hey mate, thanks for replying!! I’ve had so much crap going on in my life recently, it’s been hard. I hit it pretty hard for about a week but I’ve gone cold turkey again today. Back to square one haha!! I have to stop drinking because I have a defibrillator implanted in me and the battery is about to run out. I can’t get it done while I’m drinking because I just can’t get up and I can’t take the anestetic too with high blood alcohol level it’s not a good idea at all. My parents have been pretty abusive and negative towards me so it doesn’t make it easy. I’ve never heard of smart recovery before, I’ll check it out. I have thought about journaling it myself. Thanks mate! I hope your doing well yourself 😊

@Blackteeth Good on you for a sober day. I found AA didn't work for me. 6 years sober now, don't know if I've mentioned that. Still get the occasional drinking dream, but it does get easier Blackteeth. It's not easy mate. But it can be done

Re: Chronic alcohol withdrawal

@Ugly_Trout @Appleblossom Cheers guys means a lot. I've done 3 days now, tonight is the 3rd night. Last night i had to have a drink though, only had 8 light beers. Meds (Val's) wasn't helping me and i was bloody dying haha. Ye I don't think AA will help me at all, just even having to walk passed a bottle shop is bad enough! haha.

Good on you Trout!! going strong brother! keep it up! Ye I know for me personally its not easy 😞 and the journey after wont easy either. Hope you guys had a good Easter 🙂
