Hello everyone! I am 25 years old and my mother struggles with paranoid schizophrenia/ autism and depression. My father passed away when I was 11 and I have no siblings. She is a loving person and would never hurt anyone/ wants the best for me however she cannot help the way her disability controls her - she is obsessive, constantly messaging/ calling me, hardly ever wants to go outside, and so on.. I know I will never be able to change things and never have much of a parental bond, but I am feeling very lost in life. I have barely gone out/ made friends/ or lived my life, I feel like I don't fit in, but I also don't want her to be alone. Just feel stuck on what to do.

I don't know anyone in person who can relate to my situation and I don't speak about it much. I am worried for the future as her state will only deteriorate. If anyone can relate please reach out!! 🙂

@Blueberri I also had a mother diagnosed with Schizophrenia. It is a hard road to hoe. I am much older, a senior, but my best suggestion, is to find some quality of life for yourself. Be available for her by all means, but different stages of development have different goals. Find a way to set boundaries and limits, and have a few adventures. My father also died when I was in primary school, so I know there are a lot of challenges, simply to manage life, let alone mental illness.

take care of yourself

Hey @Blueberri, thanks for sharing your experiences with the community!

It's so heartwarming to hear that you are caring for your mother, and I also hear the challenges that you face because of your situation. It takes real courage to reach out here on the Forums with your peers, and you are being really brave sharing your experiences.

I am diagnosed with schizophrenia and have had many of my own challenges throughout my life. I am very grateful for the support my family provide to me throughout my journey. I am sure that your mother really appreciates the support that you provide to her.

We have a thread here on the Forums which is a space to talk about all things to do with psychosis and schizophrenia if you would like ot check it out: https://saneforums.org/t5/Social-space/Hearing-voices-and-psychosis-%EF%B8%8F/td-p/1682014

I'm sure that the community and other carers with have some insights to share with you!

Take care

Good morning all, im so thankful I found Sane. My husband had a breakdown a couple of years ago and it's a daily struggle that has now resulted in us separating. It's the last thing I want but just can't live with the anger anymore. I need support to help me get our lives back. I feel like im grieving the loss of another husband. Although his body us still here everything else about him died. Hopefully this space will help me work though things.

Still holding onto hope.

Hello and welcome @Fullofhope79

We're glad that you've found this space and have felt able to share what you've been going through.

I also hope that the forums can help you work through some of the emotions that would naturally come from losing so much of the person you loved. I also hope that it helps you to feel heard and seen by others who may have gone through something similar.

It's wonderful that you're still holding onto hope, we'll hold on to it with you
