Changing Medication

Changing Medication

Hi all,

I am about to come off my antidepressant (been on for about 2.5 years) due to side effects (bruxism) ruining my teeth), and this is a terrifying process, after a few days i have already had withdrawal symptoms and it is not something other people understand. I liken it to having heart medication changed, Dr is messing around with your life but you can't tell your employer or friends about that.

I need support, I live alone, I don't want to relapse and lose my job.

Re: Changing Medication

What to do when you just want to check out of life? I can't cope anymore and want it to end. Nurses just say'then you cant have leave today ' none wants to talk about it

Hi @Janice_22 I imagine being met with this avoidance of how you're feeling would feel pretty invalidating. How would you like to be able to talk to the nurses about this if you were able?

Re: Changing Medication

I would like to be asked why I'm feeling that way, to be given some hope that things will improve, dr probably not even coming in tomorrow as he usually works Mondays, I have chronic pain and intolerance to antidepressants and tardive dyskinesia and i can't see any future for myself anymore

Re: Changing Medication

I can understand feeling so fed up @Janice_22 it sounds like you've been going through a lot and haven't yet received that hope you're needing that things might improve. Is this what's bringing these thoughts on, or is there more that you'd like to talk about?

If you're comfortable talking about it I'm here to listen

Re: Changing Medication

Everyone is out living their lives and i am in a psychiatric hospital 4th time in 12 months , i thought private system was best option but they just hand out sedatives instead of talking to you, i hate my life if it wasn't for the impact it would have on my family i would not be here anymore. I have no hope.

I hear you @Janice_22

It sounds like your family is a big protective factor that's keeping you here.

Outside of the hospital do you have any supports in place?

Re: Changing Medication

So I'm still in hospital until next week, today I feel my Dr is gaslighting me when he said 'I'm still not convinced that you have tardive dyskinesia ' even though i have the symptoms and saw neurologist (in the same hospital) who has ordered a bunch of tests to rule out other illnesses, the mri referral has written on it 'orofacial dyskinesia history of anti-psychotc use' how much more evidence does he need? I felt very invaidated today, he seems to think TD is rare but I'm sure many people on this platform have experienced it.

I'm guessing i can't mention medications on here?

Re: Changing Medication

I'm sorry to hear what you are experiencing @Janice_22

I hope you will be able to get other opinions too.

And yes, you are correct in saying that members are not able to post about medication here on the forums. This is to ensure we focus on psychosocial supports here.

Re: Changing Medication

When i asked my dr why he said he is not convinced i have tardive dyskinesia he said some crap about not being the usual course or progression bla bla i said i felt he was gaslighting me because i have the symptoms, he said 'maybe you don't trust me anymore and want to find another dr -i don't care'

I found this very upsetting,

He is waiting for me to have all the neurologist tests before he we accept the diagnosis im really feeling the therapeutic relationship is breaking down in the days before my discharge, very upsetting.
