Something about where I am at right now

Something about where I am at right now

Is there something to be said for moving from recovery, to management, to betterment, to success with regards to our mental health?

I was first diagnosed in 2012. Ten years ago this year.

At those stages it was about recovery and management.

Then it moved into betterment. Taking care of my physical body and ensuring my priorities were set in order in regards to life.

Now I feel I like am wasting my time. I haven't had a relationship, I haven't had a proper job I like, I haven't had sex, I haven't travelled much, I haven't.... you get the idea...

I am aware of my health. But perhaps I am too aware? Perhaps I'm too aware of my faults and too aware of my limits. Too aware of what "I have not".

I compare myself to people who are doing better - but I feel the reason this happens is because I know that I am just as capable as they are.

I feel I've been held back too long by my illness. But I don't want to accept that. I feel if I accept that then I may as well give up and take any job (which was my thinking about 3 years ago).

Now that I'm where I am in life now I feel it's better to just be honest with myself and those around me. This was why I quit my old job. I felt better when I got accepted into the uni course. But I still kind of feel I only did that as an excuse to leave work. But idk. There's just a lot going on.

This week coming up will be my final week at this job.

After that the world opens. But I must be cautious of things. I want a friend with benefits situation.. or at least that's what I think i want. I want a job in cyber.. or at least that's what I think I want... I want a really good social life... or at least that's what I think I want...

See the conflict? It needs to be resolved after all

I’m not sure what the disability employment agencies are like now but in my experience they’ve been pretty useless. If you want to go down that route I’d be really pressuring them to get a job that suits your qualifications and nothing less. There is covert discrimination with this illness and you have to push these agencies to get real work

Hi @MDT

I understand the feeling of being 'too aware', I feel like if I am too aware of my mental health it does get worse and I look for distractions or a change to help ease my mind. But then because I don't feel up for it I don't try too much betterment either. I am doing my best atm to accept where I am and this just might be my new normal for a time. I constantly have to remind myself that nothing is stagnant and slowly slowly things might move in a more positive direction. I just wish I could quantum leap at times but it is just not for me. I need to take it slow and steady.

Wishing you some clarity !

Have you ever considered writing erotic fiction, @MDT? That could be a good way to explore and gain confidence in your sexuality without needing a partner or a FWB. Maybe you might even meet a partner through your writing, if you publish it? 🙂

I hear you loud and clear my friend. With my severe mental illness your story reads exactly how I used to be. For me still comes in waves everything's great for two years then sucks for two years. Oh the advice I could give on finding a friend with benefits, unfortunately although it is extremely helpful to your mental health and something I never regretted it maybe flaged by the moderator, 🤣, this is all Anonymous oh god I hope it's Anonymous lol. For a lot of people I have found if they get that sex thing out of the way a lot of things just starts a fall into place I'm not sure if you're male or female because it's Anonymous. If you're a man it's easy if you're a woman it's 10 times easier don't worry about standards or anything just get it out of the way 🤣, seriously though thanks for sharing you have a lot of guts I might actually share something of myself like that👍
