Pscyhedelics

Pscyhedelics

Not sure if the guidelines for the sane community permit this but I'm posting it to see

does anyone here have experience with psychedelics?

I have been listening to and reading a bit about them. Thinking of doing it.

Hey everyone!
I don't want to disrupt this interesting discussion but just in case it comes up, I thought I would put a friendly reminder that discussing the new findings and research is absolutely fine, but, of course, Forums are not the place for any recommendations. Medications and drugs can have very different effects for different people and it is always best to check in with your health care professional to discuss any options.

Kind regards

Re: Pscyhedelics

I am 50 y/o and my diagnosis in June was treatment resistant major depression and cluster B personality disorder cluster. I was suicidal and desperate for help. Luckily for me I found a GP who started me on K therapy in June of 2022. I started treatment with another drug (a patch) which has shown promising results in treating SI in about October because I was still getting some residual SI.

At the same time I started the K treatment I had had 12 sessions in the chair with the magnet over my head but I dropped out of that (they recommend 30 sessions). The K and the patch relieved my SI almost completely in about one month

There are at least four controlled studies showing the patch reduces SI and both are recognized as an augmentation medicine for treatment resistant depression (João Quevedo, William V. Bobo, Patricio Riva-Posse. Managing Treatment Resistant Depression : A Guide to Novel Therapeutics. 2022.Elselvier Science). Since SI was so distressing to me, and it was one of my major treatment goals to get rid of it, luckily my GP agreed to prescribe the patch although they are TGA approved for pain only

It is now November and I have only had a few days when I felt like I didn't want to live. I am ABSOLUTELY hugely. grateful to my GP, although sadly he has now left the clinic and gone to South Australia to help his dad who I think is terminally ill.

As a final word, I had previously consulted two psychiatrists and none mentioned K or the patch as a potential medication worth trying. All of them said the same thing: try anti-depressants (already told them i had tried them all without benefit so why do that???) and atypical anti-psychotics (again, had already told them had already tried it with no benefit). Their advice ("help") was so frustrating. To be charitable to these psychiatrists, I should mention that it was only in July of 2022 that The Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZP) published a clinical memorandum on the use of K in psychiatric practice. You can read their position statement here: Clinical Memorandum for the use of K in psychiatric practice, The patch is not yet recognized by Australian psychiatrists despite the mounting evidence of its use which I find disappointing. This is partly why I wanted to write about my own experience, to share with others who might be feeling desperate that there is help out there that works. It is hard to get a doctor to prescribe these drugs but I want to say to anyone suffering like I was, please don't give up. Keep searching.

I got on the NDIS in June I think so I have funding for long term psychotherapy. So now I am now going to try schema therapy for my personality issues. I have heard some good things about this treatment. A large Dutch study followed 300 or so BPD patients for 3 years getting schema therapy and 50% of BPD patients got complete remission and 2/3 experienced "significant clinical improvement".

Anyway, reach out to me if you have anything you would like to ask me about my experience.

Best of luck on your journey
