Welcome and getting started

Overwhelmed

Overwhelmed

I am known to begin each task with the end in mind. But for months I think of everything that comes up and I just feel so overwhelmed I just wanna cry. I fear that I won't be able to keep up with things like the gardening so I can keep the landlord happy, keeping the house clean every week, controlling my alcohol consumption. I fear that I won't be able to keep up financially even with the support of my family. I get reassurance from my mum and that helps even just for a moment.

I have appointments coming up, one for my GP for both my physical and mental health, one for job services provider and one for the dentist due to a chipped tooth. I am trying to get through. But right now just overwhelmed.

Hi @TheJuZShoW

I can hear the waves of feelings you’re having right now. I know too, those which play out for myself during various times.

I don’t know whether it’s worth sharing but with overwhelm I try to counter it with practicing self compassion. I also find writing down the things & then prioritising them depending on what needs to be done etc & my own energy. AND also chunks of time to not have to think about stuff such as life’s responsibilities.

I also have a friend who uses the mantra - “one day at a time”. They’ve told me it serves as a helpful reminder for them.

Do you feel OK bring up these things with your GP with your next apt?
Sounds like you have some supports around you but are there any that you can explore those aspects in your life with in more depth?

Re: Overwhelmed

Oh @TheJuZShoW ,

My head was swirling at the beginning of today. I felt a bit like how you felt in your post.

So then, I decided to write a list of things to do. As I completed tasks off the list, I crossed them out. This gave me a sense of achievement. By the way, I didn't write the tasks in order of priority. The list was simply a 'brain dump' of all the things I needed to do - you can draw pictures instead of write words if that helps you.

I try to complete the smaller tasks first so I can cross them out. But really, do whatever works for you.

When I am completing each task, I zone in to the task and block all other tasks out so I don't get stressed. If tasks are more difficult, I set a reward for myself e.g. after I finish washing the dishes, I will get 10 mins iPad time (this is just an example); or after I do the gardening, I'm going to the shops to buy an iced coffee 🙂

Hope this helps!
