TW suicidal but don't want to act on it

TW suicidal but don't want to act on it

I am feeling suicidal like it is realistically the only option i have left to escape this hell except that i dont want to act on it or do anything i just feel horrible and like i should do it but i dont want to do it. and idk where that leaves me like i have such conflicting thoughts on the matter it would be much easier if i felt one way or the other but i dont and i dont know what to do with myself. like i dont think i am unsafe because i dont plan to do anything but it is very uncomfortable just having to sit and let the thoughts swim around in my head nagging at me. does this happen to anyone else? how do you deal with it?

That's really tough @Eden1919 I'm sorry to hear things are so painful for you right now.

If you are feeling unsafe or just need someone to vent to please remember you can reach out to the SANE Help Centre at 1800 187 263

There's also the below as options as well.

Lifeline 13 11 14

Suicide Call Back Service 1300 659467

I really appreciate the strength it took to post in this particular thread about your thoughts. That shows you care about yourself. I promise I'm not trying to fob you off by giving you the above numbers, I know sometimes it can feel like that when people do it to me, I just want you to know the option is always there. 🙂

In the mean time, maybe try something to distract you? I sometimes find movies helpful. One of my favourites is Hunt for the Wilderpeople. Highly recommend!

Take care,

Thanks for reaching out. And thanks for your earlier comment about comedy. I think you're on to something. It's a funny time for comedy. Hard to do but more neccesary than ever. Here's a small list of comedic cat-burglars.

- "Rick and Morty" is essential viewing. The Simpsons of our time. "Community" for that matter (by the same creator) is also highly rate-able.

- Reggie Watts (comedy hit and miss but also a genius musiciologist. "F$*K, S@#T Stack" is maybe not the funniest great song. But it is the greatest funny song. The "Why S%@T so Crazy?" special is...special.

- Saturday Night Live's "What Up Wit Dat" and "Black Jeopardy" sketch serieses. Also, the McRuber sketches and subsequent McGruber movie.

- "Flying High/Airplane" is classic and relentlous.

- "Princess Bride" is classic (probably the most well know on this list), has a lot of pg laughs and a lot of heart.

- Melissa Mcarthy, "Spy" and "Identity Thief". 2013-15 was a golden Mcarthy era.

-"Critical Role" is hours and hours of goofy roleplay.

- "Elvis and Khalesi" youtube channel. Mainly dogs barking at other dogs on the television. It's on the list.

Hi Eden1919,

Do not worry that having suicidal thoughts mean that you are at immediate risk of carrying out a suicidal attempt, as for some people suicidal thoughts are a regular occurence that they manage on a daily basis. This is not an easy thing to live with, but it helps to understand what is happening so it isn't so overwhelming. I find the following scale helps to explain the levels of suicide ideation. Although I don't think it is a well known scale, I think it includes useful terminology and phrases that help describe how you may be experiencing suicidal ideation. A psychologist once explained to me that her clients commonly talked of suicidal thoughts when distressed and that it is normal to experience them to some extent. I like how this scale explains this in their level 4 of 10 "Suicide doesn’t occur to me except in moments of frustration or stress. It’s like a weird escape hatch my brain has decided to just go to in an attempt to escape stress."

I hope you have someone you trust to talk with about the distress you are experiencing, and who can help you monitor how you are going and support you to get help when needed. It may be useful negotiating with those who support you what support you need at different levels - such as level 4 - a friendly chat; level 6 - appointment with chosen mental health supporter in next week; level 8 - speak with mental health clinician today; level 10 - call 000 immediately.

Coping strategies are probably similiar to what usually works for you in times of stress - such as breathing, meditation, and other grounding strategies. Connect with people or places that help calm you. Consider making a list of strategies that you think could help if you feel distressed and are having suicidal thoughts. There are some Suicide Safety Plans that are available to help you structure a plan with strategies to use to help manage your distressing thoughts.

You are not alone in having these thoughts. Best wishes in working out what works best for you to manage them.

Hi @Eden1919 , boy it sounds like you're really going through it atm.

Sometimes, I can burn myself out trying to find a solution to a feeling that is overwhelming my capacity to function. Like, the process of trying to feel better is the thing that continues to keep me feeling overwhelmed.

Sometimes I find it helpful to change up my set and setting - i.e. my mindset and my environment. It could be as simple as moving into a different room, chucking on an old favourite movie, or even changing the lighting. To change the mindset is sometimes a far greater challenge, but talking aloud to myself saying things like "I'm not entertaining this particular thought process right now" or "I know that this is something I'm anxious about, but it's not helping me to dwell on it in this moment."

Do you tend to reach out to MH phone services much? Might be worth chatting to someone if you feel like it would help
