The magic of tidying

The magic of tidying

Decluttering and minimising. Taking control of house and garden, nurturing body and soul. I've read Marie Kondo and read a little on a related Swedish method and feel inspired. I've been a borderline hoarder and lived with depression for too long and want to take the initiative. Has anyone done this? Or is there anyone who'd like to try with me?

I've sorted my books and uni notes. I've decided to sell some furniture when lockdown lifts. But the other papers and STUFF in the house and the jungle outside have me beaten atm. Some mutual encouragement and support is the only thing that's going to get me through. I know I'll have to face some decisions like "will I ever use that fabric stash" or "how many books in the TBR ,pile is too many" or "where do I start in the kitchen". Boxing isn't the answer, it was a temporary reprieve.

It's going to be a contest between my commitment to getting sorted and the looming possibility of having to move and downsize for my health. Having control of my space will be a win in either the old space or a new one.

Setting goals. Celebrating achievements. Sharing life hacks. Is anyone on board?

Dimity.

Re: The magic of tidying

There seem to be reports of malware every few days @Appleblossom @TAB. On my phone I aim for KISS principle.

Today my tidying effort was the neighbourhood, I picked up another bag of litter.

Re: The magic of tidying

my last phone that I complain endlessly about tells it blocks 8000 attacks on it a week .All rather pointless hey ? @Dimity @Appleblossom just tone down computing usage by a few decades .. keep manual records, employ humans etc etc

No billionaires tho then oh boo hoo

Re: The magic of tidying

Just looked at some litter apps @Appleblossom but can't be bothered documenting each item - today I counted 182 into my bag. I pick up just about everything I see including small stuff.

Panic Stations!!!

Hubby is having a replacement knee surgery in 18 days and I need to have the house clean and tidy before he comes home. He is going to need to be able to move around freely and also have a place to do his exercises. The place is not too bad but I have a lot of clutter.

Re: The magic of tidying

Sounds like a challenge @Oaktree

My suggestions for the clutter are...

Stash it (in a corner or against the wall or away in cupboards)

Store it (in the garage or a self-storage place)

Send it to oblivion or a new home (sell or donate)

You managed to tackle your bedroom in record time, you can do it again with living spaces. Is there a spot for an exercise mat?

My decluttering has slowed. I've un-stashed some stuff so now see it and need to deal with it or re-stash it... but I'm inching forward on admin tasks and gardening.

Re: The magic of tidying

@Dimity I dont bother with litter apps. I had waited til I got to about 1000 and sent an email for my greenie group to add to their "data". IMO There is too much data these days ...

I love your stashing and restashing ... post. Made me laugh at myself. I am in a bit of a phase re files and stuff not having a home while middle room cupboard gets fixed re mould etc. Saga.

Inching here. Put a bag in car to get to opshop bin.... YAY!

Tidied backyard a lot, especially jasmine on fence. Love that I am finally up to 'tidying' in the garden and using secateurs a lot. Gotten past getting things to grow .. Yay !

@Oaktree Lots going on re surgery, and him being away. He needs you in good nick as well as a safe enough place. Gently Bently with declutter expectations. Do what you can. Not sure how you manage panic generally. Sometimes it is truly overwhelming. Other times physical exercises, breathing and minfulness can help. How are you at the moment?
