The magic of tidying

The magic of tidying

Decluttering and minimising. Taking control of house and garden, nurturing body and soul. I've read Marie Kondo and read a little on a related Swedish method and feel inspired. I've been a borderline hoarder and lived with depression for too long and want to take the initiative. Has anyone done this? Or is there anyone who'd like to try with me?

I've sorted my books and uni notes. I've decided to sell some furniture when lockdown lifts. But the other papers and STUFF in the house and the jungle outside have me beaten atm. Some mutual encouragement and support is the only thing that's going to get me through. I know I'll have to face some decisions like "will I ever use that fabric stash" or "how many books in the TBR ,pile is too many" or "where do I start in the kitchen". Boxing isn't the answer, it was a temporary reprieve.

It's going to be a contest between my commitment to getting sorted and the looming possibility of having to move and downsize for my health. Having control of my space will be a win in either the old space or a new one.

Setting goals. Celebrating achievements. Sharing life hacks. Is anyone on board?

Dimity.

Well I managed to declutter again today @NatureLover @Oaktree . I shredded some stuff. I'm more confident I can get back to doing a bit each day now.

Yay @Dimity

Good for you! Well done! It certainly is easier said than done. Good luck with getting a little done each day.

Re: The magic of tidying

William Morris said "Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful."

Marie Kondo said "To truly cherish the things that are important to you, you must first discard those that have outlived their purpose. To throw away what you no longer need is neither wasteful nor shameful." And she suggested that when we discard things we appreciate what they've done for us and thank them for their service. Of course it's better if they can be passed on rather than trashed.

But there doesn't seem to be a formula for processing stuff that's emotionally charged, such as old letters. I'm finding I'm filtering, or winnowing, releasing some stuff but not all.

Hi @Oaktree @Dimity @NatureLover been up since 2 here, clearing and throwing stuff. okay am back at caravan . No huge rush, but want to see progress towards moving out clean-up. Always takes longer than imagined.

Anyway , got 2 weeks ups mt sleeve now, then work for a week and , well couple days to get over that and couple days to finish cleaning.

Have to check whether its a weeks notice or two, was thinking one, now not sure.

Hope there is some good in all of your days

Re: The magic of tidying

Hello @TAB have had problems with my "plumbing" because of diabetes! URGH I felt lousy last week and just yuk after being all backed up! lol The Coloxyl wasn't strong enough and was drinking ginger tea and psyllium until the cows came home. Pointless Had a Saturn/Pluto transit indicating blockages. Pluto rules things like plumbing and Saturn just brings stuff to a halt lol 🤣

@Dimity @Oaktree @NatureLover @Appleblossom Decided to hop back on celery juicing because its great for stuff like this and my diabetes educator said the same. On the weekend bought a $10 "step" from Bunnings which my diabetes educator recommended as a cheap alternative.

I had no idea that bowel problems are caused by not being seated correctly other than a naturopath i knew who has squatting devices at her clinic which I thought was a bit extreme all those years ago. Probably saved myself from serious intestinal problems now I'm around the age range for bowel screening!

Check out this video. Nobody wants to talk about toileting but this video REALLY educated me. I'm so glad I watched it. You could save yourself intestinal issues in future. I do know lots of us have been on meds that cause constipation and have spoken to people with things like divursticulitis and prolapses and fissures.

My diabetes educator says you can just buy any cheap "step" theyre called. I bought mine from Bunnings. Well there you have it all wonderful things you just don't want to talk about with other people! My step gets delivered this week.

Re: The magic of tidying

Yeah I read we're meant to squat like they do in other countries and the toilet was just built for convenience. I tell you I felt awful the past week or so, but celery juice is bloody fantastic. I had my produce delivery on Sunday so got to go in the kitchen and blanch leftover vegetables from last week. I used to be a comfort eater so I had to stop having certain food in the house. My earthing mat also stops me from indulging myself with food now I am not allowed eat much anymore lol @TAB Went for a walk this morning
