The magic of tidying

The magic of tidying

Decluttering and minimising. Taking control of house and garden, nurturing body and soul. I've read Marie Kondo and read a little on a related Swedish method and feel inspired. I've been a borderline hoarder and lived with depression for too long and want to take the initiative. Has anyone done this? Or is there anyone who'd like to try with me?

I've sorted my books and uni notes. I've decided to sell some furniture when lockdown lifts. But the other papers and STUFF in the house and the jungle outside have me beaten atm. Some mutual encouragement and support is the only thing that's going to get me through. I know I'll have to face some decisions like "will I ever use that fabric stash" or "how many books in the TBR ,pile is too many" or "where do I start in the kitchen". Boxing isn't the answer, it was a temporary reprieve.

It's going to be a contest between my commitment to getting sorted and the looming possibility of having to move and downsize for my health. Having control of my space will be a win in either the old space or a new one.

Setting goals. Celebrating achievements. Sharing life hacks. Is anyone on board?

Dimity.

I walked in the rain, but only half my preferred distance @GezzaP @Shaz51 .

I'm persevering with decluttering, I emptied another box.

Re: The magic of tidying

Have been sorting and decluttering old papers. Filtering really. Have tossed out quite a lot (shredding or recycling) but know I'll need to get rid of more, further down the track.

Hoping to see a difference by midyear (June 30)

Re: The magic of tidying

Thanks @Shaz51 . It's hard making an effort when I'm so depressed but I'm trying to do a bit each day.

Hope you're doing OK.

Re: The magic of tidying

So, most Saturdays I don't venture away from my computer until lunch times, sometimes it's closer to dinner time before I move. Today - second load of washing on, dishes done, have tidied downstairs and taken some rubbish out. Trying to tackle the blocked sink upstairs and have even moved some stuff in my walk in robe! Really hoping that this is the start of something amazing. Hope you're all feeling as tough as I am right now!

@Dimity I'm curious if you're actually doing the shredding, or just have a pile of I'll shred that later. I started that pile I don't even want to count how long ago. I'll start to chip away at it... one day...

Re: The magic of tidying

Well done on today's Saturday effort @Chantarelle , that's very impressive.

The blocked sink might respond to drain crystals or a plunger, they're my go-to.

My shredder permanently sits in a corner of the livingroom (Yes, more clutter) but I shred as I go. Other papers go into the recycling bin.

At present the livingroom is overrun with boxes I put front and centre to work through. Pretty depressing to look at. I'd wanted to make a difference this month so will have to work harder for the next fortnight.

Thanks for tagging me, @Dimity .

@Dimity @Chantarelle I have a big pile of papers that always build up, waiting to be shredded!

Re: The magic of tidying

Either the thread is out of order or nearly a year's posts have disappeared.

Reinforces that it's always groundhog day re my progress on my decluttering.
