The magic of tidying

The magic of tidying

Decluttering and minimising. Taking control of house and garden, nurturing body and soul. I've read Marie Kondo and read a little on a related Swedish method and feel inspired. I've been a borderline hoarder and lived with depression for too long and want to take the initiative. Has anyone done this? Or is there anyone who'd like to try with me?

I've sorted my books and uni notes. I've decided to sell some furniture when lockdown lifts. But the other papers and STUFF in the house and the jungle outside have me beaten atm. Some mutual encouragement and support is the only thing that's going to get me through. I know I'll have to face some decisions like "will I ever use that fabric stash" or "how many books in the TBR ,pile is too many" or "where do I start in the kitchen". Boxing isn't the answer, it was a temporary reprieve.

It's going to be a contest between my commitment to getting sorted and the looming possibility of having to move and downsize for my health. Having control of my space will be a win in either the old space or a new one.

Setting goals. Celebrating achievements. Sharing life hacks. Is anyone on board?

Dimity.

Thanks @Shaz51 . Hopefully the little things will add up.

I've just done some trimming in the garden.

We're expecting rain tomorrow so I'll try to do a bit more.

@Dimity Congrats on moving some documents. I know they were causing you anxiety

Many thanks for remembering and acknowledging that, @Chantarelle. I really appreciate it. I've made a start, it will take a while.

How are you (and the cat) going?

Re: The magic of tidying

Hello @Dimity @Chantarelle

I’ve gone through some of my clothes and donated the ones that were too big for me to charity. Now I have to go through drawers and wardrobe for more clothes that don’t fit. I’ll get to it eventually. Will try to start tomorrow morning.

Re: The magic of tidying

Well done @GezzaP . I think clothes were the first of Marie Kondo's categories, if you're inspired to keep going.

I trust the weight loss was intentional, not from illness.

Re: The magic of tidying

Yes weight loss was intentional. I have bipolar disorder not an eating disorder or other illness. @Dimity .

Re: The magic of tidying

That's another achievement for you @GezzaP . I've been significantly overweight which I ascribe to my bipolar med. My gp wants me to reduce my bmi but it's not easy. I've tried a couple of dieticians recently who weren't much help. Several years ago I'd done a program for diabetes awareness/prevention that made some difference - a lifestyle coach on diet and exercise.

Re: The magic of tidying

One ot my meds makes me very hungry if I have hypomania and am taking a double dose like now @Dimity . Normally my appetite is manageable. I have put a bit of weight on over the last two weeks,

but hoe to take it off again when I go back to a normal dose which will be soon.

Re: The magic of tidying

@Dimity I hope your weekend has started nicely. I'm going ok. Bonnnie however is having a bit of a meltdown because it's now so cold and she keeps asking me to bring Summer back. No matter how many times I tell her we're stuck with this until September, she keeps complaining! Makes for nice cuddle up and read a book weather.

Re: The magic of tidying

..join the club @Dimity re bmi since health issues (and meds) began, have increased mass by around 50%, took 8 years , but not looking like stopping. yes, same re dieticians etc its a vicious circle. been told have to drop weight because of other conditions, but meds taking stymie that . I did get off one w really bad side effects, , but others staying until drop a lot of weight

Anyways .. late night here ,struggling around clearing up dishes , rubbish to bin is it

  • recyclable ?
  • not?
  • flammable ? .. yes , goes into wood heater ha ha lol

had coffee and garlic bread scraps covered in melted cheese and salami .ok both were treats for not drinking ha ha ,just forgot not to drink, der.

had a good walk yest, best in ages, lots self talk trying not to think about stiffness in back and hips. bloody sore today though from not much. oh well, guess did gym day before.

Got to split wood sometime today again too.

room am in still a mess, but worst things that were really bugging me are fixed now. So that's something. @Dimity @Chantarelle @GezzaP @Shaz51
