The magic of tidying

The magic of tidying

Decluttering and minimising. Taking control of house and garden, nurturing body and soul. I've read Marie Kondo and read a little on a related Swedish method and feel inspired. I've been a borderline hoarder and lived with depression for too long and want to take the initiative. Has anyone done this? Or is there anyone who'd like to try with me?

I've sorted my books and uni notes. I've decided to sell some furniture when lockdown lifts. But the other papers and STUFF in the house and the jungle outside have me beaten atm. Some mutual encouragement and support is the only thing that's going to get me through. I know I'll have to face some decisions like "will I ever use that fabric stash" or "how many books in the TBR ,pile is too many" or "where do I start in the kitchen". Boxing isn't the answer, it was a temporary reprieve.

It's going to be a contest between my commitment to getting sorted and the looming possibility of having to move and downsize for my health. Having control of my space will be a win in either the old space or a new one.

Setting goals. Celebrating achievements. Sharing life hacks. Is anyone on board?

Dimity.

Re: The magic of tidying

@Dimity thank you for sharing the SIMPLE technique, I am going to write it out and stick it on my fridge.

My problem is lack of motivation and also moving back into my own home after living elsewhere for 8 years. I moved back 3 years ago and I still have furniture and boxes in my carport 😕

I have nowhere to put a lot of stuff so I have to really get serious and start getting rid of things.

I hope you get to declutter where you need to if you haven't already 😃

Re: The magic of tidying

@ENKELI my clutter dates back many years.

At one stage I lived elsewhere for several years looking after my dad. Then there was inherited stuff.

I hope your carport is weatherproof. The floor of mine gets wet when it rains.

I sympathise with you - more stuff than space - and you do need space to sort stuff as well.

I'm trying to get back to decluttering, I was overloaded with other worries.

Re: The magic of tidying

@Dimity no my carport is open to the elements. I've had plastic tubs deteriorate but fortunately the boxes are okay.

We sound like we're in the same circumstances so I wish you all the best in your decluttering 😊

@NatureLover I'm trying to get back on track with house and garden maintenance. There's a lot to catch up on. I'm at day 5 of at least an hour a day. I know that's pathetically little but hopefully I can rebuild.

Re: The magic of tidying

@Dimity that amount of time is not pathetic!

You are an inspiration to me. I can barely achieve an hour a week much less a day.

Keep up that great work 👏

Thanks @ENKELI . Having responsibility for the cat makes a difference, I make an effort for him.

Not sure if it applies to you with your moves but "feeling at home" is something I never got back after moving back. It would be nice to achieve that.

Re: The magic of tidying

@Dimity I’ve been doing maintenance too. Most of big jobs done, except replacing solar system which is being done on Jan 6th. I also want a new security door on front door and need a wired in fire alarm. Good luck with your efforts.

Day 5 of at least an hour a day is more than I've been doing! Well done, @Dimity 👏

Re: The magic of tidying

@GezzaP I'm going to start with small jobs from a handyman. The big jobs are too daunting and expensive at the moment.

Re: The magic of tidying

Yes expensive @Dimity . But I was able to withdraw some super. I can withdraw any amount tax free now I’m sixty. Decided to do big jobs now.
