The magic of tidying

The magic of tidying

Decluttering and minimising. Taking control of house and garden, nurturing body and soul. I've read Marie Kondo and read a little on a related Swedish method and feel inspired. I've been a borderline hoarder and lived with depression for too long and want to take the initiative. Has anyone done this? Or is there anyone who'd like to try with me?

I've sorted my books and uni notes. I've decided to sell some furniture when lockdown lifts. But the other papers and STUFF in the house and the jungle outside have me beaten atm. Some mutual encouragement and support is the only thing that's going to get me through. I know I'll have to face some decisions like "will I ever use that fabric stash" or "how many books in the TBR ,pile is too many" or "where do I start in the kitchen". Boxing isn't the answer, it was a temporary reprieve.

It's going to be a contest between my commitment to getting sorted and the looming possibility of having to move and downsize for my health. Having control of my space will be a win in either the old space or a new one.

Setting goals. Celebrating achievements. Sharing life hacks. Is anyone on board?

Dimity.

Hello @Oaktree @Complex123 @Shaz51 @Glisten many thanks for your support. Today was a bit difficult but my helper was supportive. I've now got even more boxes to go through. I guess it had to get worse before it can start getting better.

Thanks @Complex123 . She helps with some things. Other things can be complicated and difficult.

I hear you give support - but do you get the support you need? Good luck with your house and job hunting, it's not easy.

Re: The magic of tidying

@Dimity that’s why we are all here. To get the support we need. Unless it is a lived experience not many people will understand.

If it’s any consolation I’m cleaning a house that was formerly occupied by a guy who had very poor eyesight and liked to use the interior as a workshop :hammer_and_wrench:️ Even though there is a proper workshop straight through the kitchen.

He also had 3 cutlery 🍴 sets, that becomes 1 cutlery set tomorrow.

I’m going to clean 🧼 the bathroom with hydrochloric acid.

The washing machine works great now I descaled it.

Have you thought of donating a box 📦? If you haven’t used the contents?

just a thought 💭

Hope you sleep well tonight G

Re: The magic of tidying

@Glisten I can't bring myself to donate these boxes without knowing the contents. I'd catalogued the contents prior to packing them and feel the need to update the catalogues to reflect what I donate.... and there's also stuff there I want to keep. So it's a process.

Other boxes have stuff I'll need to shred or recycle.

Was your place fully furnished when you moved in? That would present its own challenges.

Re: The magic of tidying

@Dimity I’m a minimalist anyway.
I found one box of cards, letters and photos. I took photos of them all and sent them to the people who gave them to me. They LOVED IT! It meant so much to them. Then I got rid of the hard copies it was really good feeling for everyone 😊

I’m going to build my own furniture and wood turn my own plates and bowls.

Have you got any hobbies?

G
