The magic of tidying

The magic of tidying

Decluttering and minimising. Taking control of house and garden, nurturing body and soul. I've read Marie Kondo and read a little on a related Swedish method and feel inspired. I've been a borderline hoarder and lived with depression for too long and want to take the initiative. Has anyone done this? Or is there anyone who'd like to try with me?

I've sorted my books and uni notes. I've decided to sell some furniture when lockdown lifts. But the other papers and STUFF in the house and the jungle outside have me beaten atm. Some mutual encouragement and support is the only thing that's going to get me through. I know I'll have to face some decisions like "will I ever use that fabric stash" or "how many books in the TBR ,pile is too many" or "where do I start in the kitchen". Boxing isn't the answer, it was a temporary reprieve.

It's going to be a contest between my commitment to getting sorted and the looming possibility of having to move and downsize for my health. Having control of my space will be a win in either the old space or a new one.

Setting goals. Celebrating achievements. Sharing life hacks. Is anyone on board?

Dimity.

Still haven't planted the seedlings or tackled the boxes.

@Dimity 1 box 📦 Just 1.

It’s not like Tim Tams. You don’t have to keep devouring them.

I'll try again tomorrow @Glisten . The boxes are off-putting but I need to do some by Thursday.

Today I did a couple of pomodoros of general tidying (25 minute stints).

Re: The magic of tidying

@Dimity so proud of you!

I had no idea what Pomodorous method was until you wrote it 💛

Fantastic method for ADHD people like myself.

Especially if you suffer with the trifecta of anxiety, dyslexia and ADHD.

My brain 🧠 doesn’t have enough dopamine receptors.

Therefore I don’t get the feeling of reward when I accomplish something. Relief from anxiety when the job is done. But no “Ring the bell 🔔 WooHoo” moment.

Thank you for posting about the Pomodorous method because if I just focus on the limited amount of time it will push me through.

See if I run downstairs now, I can do core training for 20mins and get back to get ready for the Shed AGM.

Thank you @Dimity you helped me a lot today xx G

Re: The magic of tidying

@Glisten @Oaktree the pomodoro method is working for me atm. Top of the hour sounds a little too long for where I'm at. I'd rather do multiple pomodoros than my usual hour.

@Oaktree how are your cards working out?

Re: The magic of tidying

@Dimity totally understand. 30 mins do-able. Doesn’t cut into your day too much.

There’s always some sort of preparation and clean up involved.

I dislike the smell of rubber on my hands after I have taken rubber gloves off.

Then I have to wash my hands and moisturise.

My hands 🙌🏼 are swollen tonight. I was on the tools all day today.

It's wonderful you're being so productive @Glisten . I'm scoring severe depression again and not achieving anything other than staying afloat.

What are you making?

Re: The magic of tidying

@Dimity oh sweetheart you poor love.

Are you safe? Do you have someone to check in on you?

Do you have a favourite movie or something to occupy you?

I have to take my antidepressants everyday or I go down hill FAST 💨 really fast. I cannot miss a day.

Chairs 🪑 I’m making chairs. A guy at the Shed gave me what is left of the frames.

I don’t know where I get the ideas from. It happens when I don’t think about it.

I was struggling all day for a solution for the seat insert frame to hold the two sides together.

I left the Shed at 3pm. The solution came to me at 6pm.

Hope I’ve kept you distracted for a little while?

Do you think you will be able to sleep tonight?

I really hope you get some good sleep.

Thankyou @Glisten . Yes I'm safe. Just not functioning well.

Well done re the chairs. I've seen photos of lovely Shaker chairs.

I'll try to settle with my hot water bottle, I'm resigned to disappointing my helper tomorrow.

Re: The magic of tidying

@Dimity what do you mean disappoint your helper? What did you have planned for tomorrow?

Shaker furniture is a skill that is beyond my capabilities 🙌🏼 amazing craftsmanship.
