The magic of tidying

The magic of tidying

Decluttering and minimising. Taking control of house and garden, nurturing body and soul. I've read Marie Kondo and read a little on a related Swedish method and feel inspired. I've been a borderline hoarder and lived with depression for too long and want to take the initiative. Has anyone done this? Or is there anyone who'd like to try with me?

I've sorted my books and uni notes. I've decided to sell some furniture when lockdown lifts. But the other papers and STUFF in the house and the jungle outside have me beaten atm. Some mutual encouragement and support is the only thing that's going to get me through. I know I'll have to face some decisions like "will I ever use that fabric stash" or "how many books in the TBR ,pile is too many" or "where do I start in the kitchen". Boxing isn't the answer, it was a temporary reprieve.

It's going to be a contest between my commitment to getting sorted and the looming possibility of having to move and downsize for my health. Having control of my space will be a win in either the old space or a new one.

Setting goals. Celebrating achievements. Sharing life hacks. Is anyone on board?

Dimity.

@Dimity

I need to whip myself into a frenzy this week and do some cleaning. Having some friends over for dinner on Friday night.

@Shaz51

You totally said the right thing to @Dimity at not overdoing it.

My DREAM is to have a clean spot but it’s not going to happen as I choose to Iive with the only table with a sewing machine on it and many boxes underneath it with fabric which is usually overflowing then in the bedroom…..same same.

The the floor with little bits of needles and cotton every where

Where are my overalls?

Re: The magic of tidying

I should pack away my sewing machine from the table @PeppyPatti as I can't see to thread the needle. I've got craft stuff stacked in a corner of the livingroom.

I'd like to be tidier but I'm not a minimalist. If it brings you joy, keep it.

Yes, I agree @Dimity

A long time ago, my living area was clean…….. this is hiding the craft crazy area and the bookcase crazy area and the budgies crazy area.

Ide Love to get beeeautiful couches and furniture but hey, it does the trick…….I put more value on my artwork…

Re: The magic of tidying

Artwork is important @PeppyPatti

My grandmother said the colour should be in the pictures and the people but I decorated with strong colours. One day I'll redecorate

Happy to hear you were able to get 11 boxes to your home, @Dimity 🙂

Good luck over the next 2 weeks...

Re: The magic of tidying

I got 4 boxes to the opshop today @NatureLover. Then I did some tidying. Rearranging really, stacking some stuff back in the spare room. Admission of defeat perhaps. I'll get back to that stuff some other time.

Lots of work to do.
