Welcome and getting started

Treatment order

Treatment order

Hi there everyone,

I'm new to this site, lm a mother of a beautiful boy who has struggled with schizophrenia for the past very hard 3years (since he was 19). On Friday his mental health worker issued a treatment order and the police and ambulance took him to hospital Friday night. He is so tormented by these voices and belief we were poisoning him honestly there's so much l couldn't write it all down. He was up and down with his meds however the last 8 weeks had been given meds via injection which doesn't seem to of helped his last dose last Monday they doubled the dose and the voices were relentless 2 days he didn't sleep become very aggressive, desperate and couldn't get a rest from the voices etc. I know this was nessasary and l understand why but l am so so very fearful of what happens from here? Will he ever be free from this or at least find a way to survive it and live a normal life? Can anyone share with me there story and any advice?? It's been hell living with this no sleep or waking to him in the roof because someone has put cameras in the roof, every mark on the wall was a conspiracy etc my poor boy its just heartbreaking and there's absolutely nothing l can do, or is there?? Thankyou for taking the time to read my post. I honestly don't know what to expect or what happens from here.

Hello @Mumslove

I wanted to just check on you and see how you are feeling today.

You have been through so much and I know how worried and unsettling such a time is.

Has your boy settled slightly with the sedation?

Take care

Sophia

Hi Sophia
Thank you for checking in, how incredibly kind of you. My son is on his second sedation injection, legally they can't administer more than 4 apparently they last for 2 days and he is also on other sedatives orally. When he is awake. The goal is sedate him until the meds kick in enough to dull out his voices and delusional state. I am keeping busy by fixing his room which is covered in holes and permanent marker, l want him to return to a fresh room and start so I'm focusing on that even laying new carpet and focusing on everything l can control to ensure his recovery is a fresh start etc l hope that makes sense. How are you? What a road you and your son have travelled, he sounds like a very incredible young man!! And boy do l admire your strength and its quite evident that as mothers we love so unconditionally.

Oh Sophia l really do relate to the hours of listening and how they really do take a toll on us, how fortunate he is to have you in his life, it's so hard at times isn't it. Sophia are you in Australia?

Hello @Mumslove

Gosh I think @Sophia1 thinks I'm more clever than I really am. I will try to help with navigation around this beautiful community.

There are two sides, a lived experience which is this one and a carers side. There are no rules as to sticking to one side. Most carers, like myself end up with our own health issues be it anxiety, depression, burnout etc. Witnessing a loved one decline in the way that ours have certainly takes a very heavy toll. I landed here at a dangerous time in my own headspace and found love, care, compassion and no judgement. I have made many firm friendships here. I have also called SANE dozens of times just to ask for advice or have someone listen. I cannot speak highly enough of their services and encourage you to utilise them if you need to.

On the forum home page (I use my phone so not sure where they appear in a computer) right down the bottom are topics you can click on. It will take you to a list of threads around the topic. Some of which might be helpful.

Here's a screen shot so you can see what I mean...

May I suggest looking into an NDIS plan? I knew nothing about it but it's been game changing for my boy. Happy to answer questions.

I also urge you to look after yourself.

If you don't have a psychologist you should find one. There are Government support groups as well. Most holding online discussions at the moment. I'm not sure where you are based but I'll leave the link for the NSW one to give you an idea as well as Black Dog Institute link for caring for a loved one...

Hello @Mumslove

aaah dear, you have 'the fixing up the room job'. It is sad and difficult, but I understand your motherly desire to give your son a new start.

I am glad other forum members were able to reply. I look at art which helps me calm down. Not sure what works for you.
