Walking for Wellness and Healthy Habits

Walking for Wellness and Healthy Habits

  • So I took part in Topic Tuesday this evening on Physical Activity for Mental Health. I feel motivated so I am going to give up my couch potato ways and start to make an effort to get outside to walk for exercise. I am hoping that I will improve my mental health whilst losing weight and increasing fitness. I am going to keep you updated about my progress here. Feel free to join in - the more the merrier! Maybe we can help motivate each other.

Re: Walking for Wellness

Hi @Former-Member welcome aboard! @Captain24 @TAB @Oaktree @tyme et al helped me keep on track. Putting on my shoes and getting out the door even if it was 10 minutes around the block. I usually go late afternoon or early evening. The local magpies know me now and saunter away rather than taking flight, and a chubby cat often greets me.

If I walk to the supermarket or busstop I take that as my walk for the day.

Have you managed to keep up your October momentum @Oaktree ? You did so well.

Re: Walking for Wellness

I guess it's been overshadowed by your surgery @TAB but I hope you can get your gp or physio to look at it. I had something similar a few years back and it was crippling at times. I remember once thinking I couldn't walk from work to the tram to get home, I was stuck halfway in the dark til I got a hobble on.

What are you planning this pm? I'll toss some magazines then go for my walk. Have you been food shopping yet?

Re: Walking for Wellness

yeah I've tried walking then then resting etc , will have to get onto it soon, prob moving better than not moving dunno @Dimity bit unhappy I slept in all morning, and going to shops every day but never seem to get anything that last for much longer than a day plus I want newspapers . If I'm Really good will walk to shops but the way foot is, prob dumb idea prob just short walk near home, when it complains turn around and go home instead of trying to keep going, anyway its cold, just playing on computer will get moving in hour or so, as in my centrelink avoid lunch hour mode also try to avoid weekends at shops as people who work are there

Re: Walking for Wellness

Probably best not to push too hard while it's inflamed @TAB. Agree re shopping weekends but don't like running out of milk. I'm still wearing a mask when I go. Another covid outbreak here atm.

Re: Walking for Wellness

I didnt wear a mask at hospital on 4th nov @Dimity staff were saying it was the first day, I still forget going to give blood etc, but have 1 or 2 in car some places give them for free , others sell them. Gosh I miss my bathtub from where I lived before . could just lie in there for an hour right now lol. Apparently there are public baths in France , can pay money and go and have a proper bath lol. need to put more clothes on ok after shower I guess, bed is tempting again, seriously ? its way more comfortable than the lounge though lol

Re: Walking for Wellness

Welcome to the walking thread @Former-Member

I have had best intentions re walking @Dimity , however it has all fallen in a heap. I really need to push myself to start walking daily again.

Re: Walking for Wellness

Hopefully you'll get back on track @Oaktree. You excelled yourself last month.

I walked today during a brief interlude of sunshine but it's now raining heavily. That's Melbourne weather.
