What does well-being mean to you?

What does well-being mean to you?

I hear this term a lot nowadays. In pop culture, psychology and in every nook and crany of modern life.

Does it mean living life in a particular way? With a particular mindset?

Does it mean we try to solve the problems in our lives, try to find what the cause of an issue may be, try our best to manage whats happening?

I have been thinking that wellbeing is a mindset. A practical set of behaviours that we enact to make ourselves tolerate... ourselves.

It can be hard living with mental health issues. Particularly ones that limit our livelihoods - depression keeping us down, anxiety causing us to stress etc etc.

At what point does wellbeing "kick in" so to speak?

Well, it should be no surprise that well is one of my favourite words. If I could, I'd make my tag "wellwellwellwellwellwellwellnez". Every time I use the word I imagine people and communities as actual literal wells.

I also think well being is one of those things that's best seen as a value rather than just a goal.

Triumph doesn’t just happen. It comes about because we as humans choose to pursue it, regardless of risk or rules or boundaries, because we choose to listen to the voice inside of us that says chase it. Without the chase, everything man has ever done would not have been done as well as good at all. So when the call comes to chase something, listen to it. Ignore the comfort zone. It never climbed a mountain, it never created a damn thing. Chase boldly. And when you do, raise a glass to yourself. Because you, sir or madam, are alive.

Re: What does well-being mean to you?

Some things I have been reflecting on have got me thinking about this question of wellbeing once more.

A friend from childhood who has been around my life for a while now seems very hostile to anything I am doing. He always wants me to hang out with him and HIS friends. I find his friends immature and boring. It isn't coming from a place of desperation where I can have sympathy for him - because I have seen that before and that is different. that happens when someone feels lonely and starts accepting any company whatsoever. It's a tragic thing. No. this friend of mine is demanding and can be quite immature. I think he is masking his insecurity by lashing out. I can take it on the chin I don't really care. It's just boring to me. In terms of wellbeing? Well the best option here is to build up some distance and just get on with my life.

This brings me to the next subject which is uni and the internship and the job. So the job started this week and my wellbeing is unaffected. This is so much better than my old place of work where it was toxic and boring.

but it does seem I have replaced one strenuous environment with another in signing up for uni and interning.

Wellbeing here? simple. cut out the thing that you can afford to cut out. I think I may be able to get by in the next week or two as my new role normalises.

But also to remember that it is a good set of problems to have.

I think Wellbeing has kicked in.

@MDT I just don't have the brain power to write what I wanna say here. So I'm going to reduce it to -- people change, we need different people in our lives at different times of our lives. It's ok (and normal I'd say) to grow apart from childhood friends. And distance doesn't have to be the end of a friendship. It can be temporary. And it can also be the best thing for a friendship when the dynamics are changing
