Daily Achievements!

Daily Achievements!

Hi forum friends! I've decided to start a new thread on Daily Achievements because I suffer from depression as one of my mental illness and that means it's often hard for me to remind myself that I do actually things in my day, no matter how small they may be. I thought forumites could post here a daily achievement or 2 so we can remind ourselves that we have done something good each day. It can be as big or as small as you like. Just as long as what you did makes you proud and happy.

I'm tagging @roses @Bow @Shaz51 @BPDSurvivor @saltandpepper @Daisydreamer @Former-Member @Former-Member @Former-Member @TideisTurning @Former-Member @frog @Sans911 @outlander

in case you might be interested as well as anyone else who wants to join in!

So, to get this discussion started, I'll post my achievements today which are:

- I had a gorgeous cup of tea which helped me deal with some anxiety I was experiencing;

- I paid my car registration which was due today.

See what I mean about achievements? Mine may seem small or irrelevant to some people but to me, because I have depression, these are actually major in the scheme of my life. I look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with.

Time keeping, Goals & Accomplishments (Achievements)

Wednesday 9 June 21

Tasks Completed (Struck through)

  • Clear Back Patio ready for fence material prep (1¼ hours)

  • Cut Pipe for fence post supports (1 hour)

  • Dismantle fence for reuse, or replacement of damaged panels (1½ hours)

  • measure posts to be replaced, cut, connect, ready to set in concrete (1½ hours)

  • Ready concrete and tools (1 hour)

  • Meet counsellor at midday (1½ hours)

Yesterday (Wed) I did get in

  • some self-care time with Kirra {SC}

  • Forum activity

  • Preparation for counselling discussion

  • Counselling appointment

    I am very pleased to have initiated the counselling arrangements. Our discussions have been productive. Through them (third to date) I am becoming more aware of blockages, barriers, resistance and inertia with regard to thinking and feelings. And how these 'characters' are involved in my present day activities.

    I have previously had trouble separating or distinguishing between feelings, emotions and thoughts. Childhood scripting - “children don't have feelings.”

    The counsellor has a wide background ranging from early apprenticeship as pastry-cook, through security, prison work, immigration, studies in psychology and social work. Consequently she has the capacity to relate to a wide range of situations and circumstances. In terms of achievements, I am including the acquisition and development of my knowledge and awareness of the issues that I face each day.

  • Acquisition and development of personal awareness.

However, I found the counselling session somewhat draining yesterday, and consequently, have now to transfer my plans for yesterday to this afternoon and tomorrow. I will present my achievements report tomorrow evening.

Today (Thurs) I have completed so far:-

  • Kirra out, played and fed {SC}

  • singing at residential aged care 'house'

    singing was pleasant, however, I was knocked by one person's thoughtless comment. So I need to look at my reacting impulses and more appropriate responding skills.

I look forward to making tomorrow more productive than today and yesterday.

If anyone has any suggestions I would be pleased to hear them.

Thank you for considering my achievements and what I have planned.

Cheers,

HenryX

@Former-Member

Hello Always-hope

Regarding my post of Thursday 10 June at about 1.30 pm and your response and encouraging remarks @Former-Member , which I really appreciated. Thank you.

This is the comment to which Always-hope was referring:

“singing was pleasant, however, I was knocked by one person's thoughtless comment. So I need to look at my reacting impulses and (develop) more appropriate responding skills.”

After singing, a few of us were talking in a general sense about cleaning of premises used by the community and this person said “Oh some cleaners are so lazy”, to which I replied that “Maybe they just don't know how to clean.” Anyway, the next few sentences made the observations personal and offensive.

I develop this issue because there are lessons that I need to learn from this interaction. And I hope, in doing so, that others may be encouraged not to simply dismiss their feelings as being trivial, valueless and inconsequential.

  • Some people who have the capacity and practical skill to communicate effectively, simply do not know how to use those skills wisely and appropriately. This particular person is the type to make observations to anyone, whether it is their business or should not be. I just have to learn not to engage with them in conversation. That way I will not give cause for them to say anything to me, that I feel may be offensive. And even if they do, because I haven't participated in the conversation, I can justifiably ignore any such comments.

  • I need to learn not to take offence. If I know that another person who may be prone to speaking without the capacity to consider the effect or appropriateness of their comments, I need to be resilient enough to “let such comments go through to keeper”, and not to be effected by them.

  • Another reason that I am talking about this issue is that comments made in this fashion bring to near surface level, reactions that were developed in my childhood. Those feelings were extremely negative, as a result of derision, being belittled, and a crushing and diminishing of self and identity. Unfortunately, these feelings are not at a conscious level, where I might have been able to address them directly.

  • It is of considerable concern, annoyance and some distress to me, that I am still dealing with issues that began in my childhood, at this stage of my life.

    However, anytime is still better than never. It is not a function of time that determines the resolution of such issues, but the knowledge of how to make the connections between events later in life and those formative events in childhood. Also, the will, time and availability of an appropriately qualified and experienced facilitator, to assist in addressing and considering the possible ways by which those issues may be addressed. If all that were easy, none of us would be here.

  • It is my wish to resolve some of my reactive tendencies and replace them with a more appropriate responding capacity. The reactive tendencies diminish my capacity to function in what may be considered normal ways.

  • I hope that by writing this material, apart from being a cathartic experience for me, that others, by reading these thoughts, may not be so quick to dismiss and possibly disregard their own concerns about difficult to explain feelings, as trivial, valueless and inconsequential when they arise.

With My Very Best Wishes

HenryX

Re: Daily Achievements!

Hi everyone,

I still have no idea why or how I was issued with a Pension Concession Card, & why my Health Care Card was cancelled.

I received the Pension Concession Card in the mail.

It has some benefits that I’ve never been offered before.

I registered Online for TransWA Pension Card Holder free travel.

When Registered (not before), I can claim 1 free Return Trip, or 2 free Single Trips per calendar year.

I’m not sure if, when or how I will get to use it.

If I lose the Pension Card entitlement (Get Job, earn over $$ Income Threshhold) – Then I will not get to use it.

I think I need to book a trip, then get to use it at least once.

I’ve not really been anywhere (Trip/ Holiday) in over 5 Years – Since Dad’s Funeral in NSW.
