"But I have read through the comments and I was very sad to see that as usual there is no conversation or information about being drug free"
I just want to tell everyone out there. That there is a medication free possibility out there and I am proof of it.
I have bipolar & also ACM (acute confusional migraine). I had ACM from age 13, I was in hospital monthly up early 20s.
Its been a fight to get off ACM medications and same as Bipolar meds. DURING my HSC I decided against doctors to take myself off all treatment - to my surprise I had no change in frequency / severity of migraine & recently saw the neurologist who created the Migraine bioceuticals treatment & he confirmed much of the medication had insufficient evidence for my condition. You can imagine that after years of being on medication I wasn't happy to hear this. I felt like I lost years of my life.
The moral of this story & as well as to point out bipolar co-morbidites is that medication in the long term is not the answer for everyone. It is an important tool in recovery from serious psychosis & severe times. E.g. if rather be on meds than psychosis obviously!
But to get to a medication free stage:
- Life style change
- Exercise
- being present
- Finding your passion & driver for your existence
- relationships
The hardest part of the above list for me in the relationships. To communicate bipolar experience is very hard for me at work I tell no one due to a previous incident that happened to me. So I struggled a lot at work.
But i feel like if you have a passion, dorwction in life of what you want to, achieve - whether it's to help others, create art, be a mother, sister, brother, friend, get a job you always wanted. Everyone has dreams & in the :pile_of_poo:times I return to this.
And you have to fight, never give up and not allow anything to stop you doing what you want to do with your life.
People with bipolar are strong. They cope with mental weight and trials in their life that can help others.
It took a long time but I got off the medication for my bipolar for 5 years. And it's been hard, even this week I've had 3 days no sleep and struggled pretty badly around this time due to grief/loss. I have a lot of work to still do but I'm trying to give less ducks because I can tell from my anxiety 🦆🦆🦆the ruminating ducks can be hard to shush.
