Hi everyone

@Bunniekins @Shaz51 @Olga @Dimity @Appleblossom @eth @bipolarbunny @Meowmy @Former-Member @Former-Member @Mazarita and everyone else passing this way.

How are you all traveling?

I am in a strange, unhappy headspace.

A while back a pdoc told me that one difference between unipolar and bipolar depression is that with the bipolar experience there is often feelings of guilt/having done something wrong, even though that's not the reality.

Has anyone heard this idea before? Or had that experience?

I think I am taking on responsibility for things I can't control, but to be honest I don't know what's going on.

Re: Let`s talk about Bipolar

@frog I have never heard of it before and I been looking at that diagnosis since early 1980s as an uncle had it by the old label. He had an MA in psychology so we had insightful discussions about it ...

however recently someone in services mentioned guilt to me ... but she has a chip on her shoulder and I think she is guilt tripping me ... it is hard enough to take responsibility for one's own life, without feeling at fault for things that are outside of one's control ...

Re: Let`s talk about Bipolar

Hi @frog TW

I don't know if it's a BD thing but I've experienced being overwhelmed by feelings of shame regret and guilt, or traumatic memories of abuse neglect and bullying. At other times sorrow and grief. My longterm meds have taken the edge off and prevented paranoia and delusions but I think contribute to my mostly feeling numb and flat. Questions of responsibility and control are a bit fraught as I know I've made bad decisions and lost friendships and family relationships, and have little to be proud of in my working life, and accept all of that, while also knowing that I've survived psychosis and suicide attempts and returned to independent living. Distinguishing MI from personality, life's vicissitudes and upbringing when it comes to causal mechanisms is too hard for me to judge.
