Re: Let`s talk about Bipolar

Ha ha mediation - meditation - typo that worked either way.

@Dimity

My back and neck were already seriously compromised back then, and the whole mat sitting was never going to work for me, as I was struggling enough with full on family masochism, and I knew it would damage me more if I tried, and make my necessary work impossible.

I had to be gentle. I also blended mediation with a Christian book I had on it from French monks. Mediation, trance, dissociation all blended together .... walking and swimming became meditation and gardening does now. Except when I do daft things like c ut myself accidentally, like today, then I get a rude awakening and pretty shook up with a series of events. Boom .. major agitato. Still I have really valued being able to spill my beans today on here.

Thanks SANE.

Re: Let`s talk about Bipolar

@Bunniekins I'm sorry you had that bad experience. I first came across mindfulness in inpatient relaxation sessions, then just used an audiotape for a while. No complicated courses or methods thank goodness. Group meditation was always session by session, and I've tried several styles at different times.

Oh @Appleblossom I'm sorry about your accident today.

I understand re mat sitting. It's beyond me atm.

Which French monks? I've come across John Main and Laurence Freeman but neither is strictly French.

Hello @Dimity , @Appleblossom , @Bunniekins , @eth , @Shaz51

and other readers of this thread

I hope the following sources of information may be useful.

I entered the following search statements into PDFDrive.com which returned results on the titles available on the respective sites. It may be a good starting point for your own search for information available freely on the web. There is no cost for downloads from PDFDrive.com, and no limit on downloads. Another site, zlibrary.com, does have a download limit of 5 titles per day (from memory) and 10 with registration. I often use zlibrary if I cannot find a title on PDFDrive. I do a lot of research on these two sites and find them both very useful and the range of material, comprehensive.

If you have any queries about using either site, I would be happy to assist, if I can.

While it is not personal experience information and reflections, I hope that this information may be helpful for searches in these and other topics. Clicking on the links, on this page, will take you directly to the returned searches. When on the respective web pages, searches can be worded and structured to narrow or expand the available results. As you can see they are all "https".

I wholeheartedly agree with many of the sentiments about the cost of what is offered by many entities. Even to the point where, I believe, that there is, in many cases, an inverse relationship between the price charged and the value of what is offered by many so-called practitioners. At least we have the option to offer, what we believe may be, an appropriate contribution, where the services are provided on a foundation of principle rather than price.

By researching the various styles and methods, through the avenues above, one can seek out and approach potential providers with a reasonable foundation of understanding. Similar in some ways to comparing relative and relevant information, on a type of motor vehicle, before considering approaching the sales team.

Hoping the information will be useful,

With Best Wishes

@HenryX

@HenryX You are thorough as usual, and some people may find the site helpful, however do not think it is wise to reduce all things to financial transactions, especially when related to spirituality. Money matters, but there is more to life. My rich brother spoke of being able to monetise things. I guess that is always possible.

Re: Let`s talk about Bipolar

Hello @Appleblossom

Thank you for your note with reference to sources of information and my comments regarding cost of services.

I actually hoped to convey that I believe there are many people who offer such guidance without expectation of payment as part of the arrangement. However, even in these situations, when it is felt that what has been offered has been truly worthwhile, we might consider offering some sort of contribution, if not to the person directly, possibly to the organisation. I was not thinking to imply that such a contribution would be expected or even considered necessary, but rather a voluntary contribution of which the person providing the guidance may never even be aware.

The reference to inverse relationship was rather a statement that the more money expected, as part of a financial transaction, if one exists, the less value was often offered by some providers. Those providing support, in areas such as meditation and other spiritually based activities, often offer their guidance based on a foundation of principle rather than and without the addition, or consideration of price, and often expect no recompense and, from my own experience, often offer better guidance.

The reference to motor vehicle and "sales team", was related, not necessarily to any financial transaction, but rather the value of information gained prior to engaging in any activity, whether it be sport, meditation or anything else. I'm sorry if I had not been more clear about my thoughts. And hope to have now shown that my thoughts are indeed, more co-incident with yours, than might have been apparent.

With Best Wishes

Re: Let`s talk about Bipolar

Many thanks @HenryX you're very kind. I hadn't known of pdfdrive.com.. According to reviews it comes with some caveats (it's a Russian site and may flout copyright) but it looks to be a very useful tool for seeing what's been published on a topic.

The questions re monetising spiritual guidance are perennial. Personally I had no problem paying the developer a small one-off fee for an app, similar to buying a book, Substantial ongoing subscriptions for well publicised products are another matter, where the vulnerable might be seen as a market to be exploited. Donations to missionaries and bloggers are down to one's individual conscience and sense of values. Fees for professional services are commonplace and by extension not for profits offering a service gratis are entitled to ask for a small contribution to ensure their continued existence. The online equivalent of begging for alms on a street corner.
