Father's Day

Father's Day

I need to write this because I am beginning to feel quite sad and emotional just thinking about Father's Day.

I will not see my dad on Father's Day and it is so distressing because i won't see him

i know he will be home with my mum and i am positive the other kids will be there having a family lunch together - except me.

I know i have a husband and kids who i will be with on that day - but it's different.

i just crave to see my dad, if only i could just speak to him, let him know how much i so love him. But i can't and (now i can't see what i am tyuping for all the tears)

i just want my dad, have to stop i am too emotional

Re: Father's Day

Not good today. Trying to stay happy for hubby and kids but it's hard. Self harming is on my mind. Just hurt like a broken doll.
Hoping we can get together with all kids this afternoon for hubby. Just visited mother in law in nursing home - so depressing.

@BlueBay. I understand what your therapist is saying re: it's not helping you with writing a letter to your dad. As it isn't helping you heal.
What do you think about what he said about it being self hharming?

Re: Father's Day

Hi @utopia

I think my therapist could be right. you see when I write letters or poems I am expressing myself, my feelings whether sad or happy, but most of mine are sad.

And because my letters etc are sad I tend to get so emotional after writing because I feel the hurt so much inside.

So by doing this it is a form of self harm - not physical (although at times I do) but mostly it is emotional.

I never even thought of it like that until my therapist said that. By doing what I do I am going over and over and over the same thing - but there is never a resolution (and i don't know if there will ever be a resolutoin) so i get so upset and cry so much.

How do i stop it? - He says to me 'just don't write anymore letters to my parents especially my dad' - yeah easy for him to say. And in fact I just remembered when i was in hospital - all i wrote in my journal were letters and poems about my dad. and what did i do after writing - bawl my eyes out.

I said to my therapist on saturday that i feel i am two differrent people - one a child craving so much for love, attention, support, hugs etc. and this child in me is at the moment so destructive, so manipulative to try to get attention and love and hugs. Then there is me the adult - who is a good wife, mum, worker, friend. and i don't show that other side to people. i also told him that in my sessions with him and my psych i feel that i am a 'child' and the more they say 'don't do this' the more i want to do it - just to show them, get back at them, prove something. Don't know where that is coming from - maybe my childhood because i had to prove myself all the time; or get the approval of my mum all the time up until 6 yrs ago.

Maybe what i do is self punishment which i guess is a form of self harm. is it for attention - well i guess it is because i want to feel loved, supported and even feel someones arms around me to give me a hug.

gosh now i am cryhing, i need to stop. think i need a group hug.

Re: Father's Day

@BlueBay. I'm giving you a big tight hug.
Maybe the point is, that yes you need to feel loved and receive lots of hugs. But you are looking in the wrong place for these things. Your childhood has passed. That family is no longer. Yes it's sad and unfair, but that is the reality.
But you have another family. Your husband and your kids. That is where you need to put all your focus. Snuggle on the couch when your hubby is watching tv. Tell him how handsome he is. Get some romance back into your life. Soon the extra hugs you need will follow.
Tell your kids how much you love them and what wonderful adults they are becoming. Give your family the love and hugs and praise that you didn't get from your first family.
Your second family will start returning the love hugs and praise you give to them.
Your sad child can become a strong loved adult.
