Hey everyone, I'm just ranting about Christmas and the holidays, i feel its the most depressing time of year. Usually all my support network stops and im on my own. I tend to drink more and today i didn't get out of bed until 4pm. Anyway whats the point of getting up if there's nothing to do but drink? Trying to stay positive, guess i just wanted to share with someone how im feeling as usually no one listens to me. Hope I'm the only one feeling this way, because its a terrible feeling.
@nath2 Hey nath2 I tend to find Christmas incredibly boring ..... I have a small family and with the lockdown there will only be 3 of us. You are not alone. There will be people online tomorroiw.Take good care of yourself and know it will be over soon. Love greenpeaxxx

Re: Christmas is depressing
Hi @nath2 Yep I find it the hardest time of the year. Daughter in mental health ward and my son miles away so there's no family gathering with laughter around my table. You're not alone in this as many many people spending the day by themselves. I get through the day by being grateful for what I do have and am happy for those who do have a joyful day. Take good care of yourself yeah and Merry Christmas x

Re: Christmas is depressing
@nath2 I also find it difficult without my usual supports over Christmas/new year break. Especially this year as I just moved to a new area at the start of December and can't access any services until at least mid January. Is a really long wait. Good on you for finding a way to get through it by sleeping. Anything to fill in those hours.

Re: Christmas is depressing
@Krishna It would be hard for your daughter to be in a mental health ward over Christmas. I was very close to being admitted too over the last few days, but was keen to stay out of hospital if possible. Hope you both get through this difficult time of year and have some enjoyable moments, even if brief.

Re: Christmas is depressing
Well I managed to go to a family lunch...even though i was planning not to go to it because of bad family history and the toxic relationships. I left early but got through it ok. Hope you've all managed to get through the day as well. Best wishes to you all and take care. Nath.

Re: Christmas is depressing
@CrazyChick just got to hang in there hey, hopefully all will be back to normal soon. At least we have this forum and help lines if needed, but not quite the same is it. I started watching the cricket which takes up all day which is great! Have also started going for long walks which helps. I've started taking sleeping tablets to sleep extra hours because i'm so bored instead of drinking...not sure if thats a good thing.

Re: Christmas is depressing
Hey there @nath2,
I just wanted to pop by because I noticed you said you've been taking sleeping tablets to sleep and avoid drinking. I'm not sure if you've spoken to your doctor regarding this and dosage plans. I encourage you to please be very cautious as this can be very risky and we don’t recommend it. I'm glad to see you reaching out for support from peers here and using helplines.
Please take care,
Sphinxly

@Former-Member why is it very risky? I just got it from the chemist, and am taking the recommended dosage.
