Something’s not right

I don't know if I'm paranoid and imagining it or someone has actually been in my place

I don't know if I'm paranoid and imagining it or someone has actually been in my place

I did call the people running the complex to ask If they had an inspection when I wasn't home or if someone somehow had access to my place, apparently not. I live on the downstairs and I have an upstairs neighbour, I work night shifts and one night I came home early for once where I heard a door quickly close, I couldn't find anything or anyone so I assumed it might have been the upstairs neighbour.

However all my butter knives have gone missing, later I found magnets on my fridge that I don't think i put there. Then more recently I stepped out of the shower and accidentally stood on a shard of glass when nothing was broken, or had been recently broken. Yet last night I had the day off and I woke up to the sound of a door closing and the cat was running under the bed, however my neighbour moved out like a week ago.

Another incident there was, was I would come back to find the glass sliding back door unlocked and the backyard light on. I thought it was just me doing it but then it would occur too often.

At times I come home and it feels like someone has been recently in there, but nothing important has gone missing. So I don't know if I'm imagining it or someone actually has been going in. There's nothing of real value here so if I'm not tripping out I don't know why they would be creeping about.

Hi @Spacing,

This looks like your first post so welcome to the Sane forums and Im sorry that you dealing with such weird and scary occurrences at your house. There a couple of things that come to mind that you could do:

  • Talk to your local Police about the activity as they may have information about similiar "break-ins" in your area, and can patrol your street more on night shift.
  • Do you have any security cameras in your complex that could be checked for people entering your unit?
  • Consider installing your own security camera.
  • Are there other neighbours who could keep an eye on your unit and report back?
  • Did someone live there with you or have access to your keys in recent months?
  • Are you living with a mental illness that has you experiencing blackouts or dissociation? This means you could be moving stuff around in a dissociated stuff. Alternatively, there could be auditory hallucinations. This may not apply to you but this is a forum for people with mental illness 🙂
  • Can you have a friend /family stay over for a few days to monitor things when you are out?

Hope these suggestions are useful. It's not really a situation you can leave as your safety may be at risk.

Keep in touch with us and have a look around the forum for threads that interest you. Please have a read of the forum guidelines here when you have a minute.

kind regards,

Hello

I've had similar problems at my unit

My previous flatmate slightly possibly may have not handed in his keys when he was moved out

But I'm relatively safe in my house

Keeping a daily routine may help you cope

Hello 'Spacing'

I'm facing the fact that 'THE APEX GANG' are turning up outside my unit every night

We better be careful to follow 'law and order' and not respond in any way to what happens outside

And one of my 'Workers' could be a leader of 'THE APEX GANG'

I hope I'm wrong

What?

I'm leaving the state in a couple of months hence I didn't bother with the security system, yet I just find it odd they haven't really done anything if they're lurking about. So I'm not sure if they're just messing with me or not.

@Spacing. Get your locks changed. Ask police to come around. Ask them to check any areas that people could access. Get a police report. Keep a copy.

Generally, locks are changed when a new tenant moves in. That covers the problem of keys not handed in, or the possibility of copies floating around.

I believe you would be within your rights to request having the locks changed.
