New BPD mum

New BPD mum

Hi folks. I've read through a few chats and feel this is a good environment for me. I'm a 46 year old single mum of 4 ( one passed away ) diagnosed with borderline about 3 years ago. Devastated as I was it did help me understand myself better. I started treatment at the vic BPD centre but stopped due to financial constraints. Anyhow, I'm here for support as the loneliness and isolation is frightening me.

Re: New BPD mum

Hi @Nell

Welcome to the forums. I'm also a single mum of two kids, aged 5 and 7. I was diagnosed BPD this year as well as a range of other things sigh! Have also felt that devastation.. been working through some things with my psychologist which has been helpful. I get the financial constraints though, things are getting tight here as also trying to pay lawyer through family court... which makes it hard to keep getting the help we need...

I have found the forums to ease some of the lonilness that i feel, though its still difficult to make solid connections in the real world. I've gone back to full time work this year and so I have developed some new friendships and that has helped ease the isolation too.

Re: New BPD mum

Hi Lj, it does help to know I'm not alone with this. I'm also going through a property settlement with my X... It's been going for 2 years now so very emotionally taxing. I find that my main social contact is through work, and tafe ( studying to be a PCA). I always feel better after being around people, yet find it so hard to contact friends. The bad days are just awful, the good days bring hope. Have you done the dialectical behaviour therapy? I enjoyed the part I did. Take care and know your value..

Re: New BPD mum

Probably my greatest fear is having my mental illness affect my children.. And their chances at happiness in adult life. As many BPD sufferes were, I was abused as a child so very sensitive to the effects childhood has on the adult mind. My children are my world and I feel so blessed to have them.

Re: New BPD mum

Hi @Nell.
Welcome. I am a single mum of 4 (aged 16 -21) sons and have a diagnosis of DPD with BPD traits, depression and anxiety. I'm not working or studying at the moment and find being on here helps with the isolation a fair bit. I just wanted to say hi as I'm just about to head off and do some things. Had a slow lazy morning but need to do something today whilst my mood is ok. I'm glad you've found this forum and hope that you find what you're looking for here. Take care 😊💜

Hi @Nell and @Former-Member

No i haven't done DBT though i've heard of it through here. I live in the country so there's not many options for a range of different types of therapy but my psychologist is good and has so far put up with me!

I also worry about my kids being affected.. for the same reasons but im working hard to make sure that they are ok... always overthinking everything.
