Feeling sad tonightett

Feeling sad tonightett

I feel sad tonight. I don't even know why. Usually when I am alone I don't miss company even though I'd be classified as an extroverted person. I've been feeling flat of late and now I'm at my place on the other side of the city to my gf. I told her I feel sad and she said she'll visit at the weekend to see how I'm going, but with everything getting on top of me today and yesterday, I wish she'd visit sooner (she can't though as she has other commitments).

My voices are also getting on top of me this evening. I've given up trying to study because of them. I guess I'm just hanging out until it's time to go to bed (I'll take my night medication and hopefully sleep better than I did last night). I also feel jumpy and a little paranoid of late too. When I went to my usual mental health support group today, people asked me if I was unwell. I don't think I'm necessarily relapsing, but I am definitely having an off few days.

Anyway I wish I could make myself feel better. Any suggestions for someone who doesn't have a lot of money to feel better in the short term? 😞

It's really tricky finances vs mental health, but you need to look after yourself.
It's good that your gf is coming to see you and the company will be great for you.
I find company with trusting non judgemental people does help a lot.
In regards to cheap options, on the beyond blue site there is a meditation that helps me sleep if you listen to it, it might help quieten the voices when ur trying to sleep, otherwise I find sunshine and a long walk with some headphones in also helps, or some cheap video games.
Good luck!!

Hi @Queenie

I don't know if you've seen the 'coping box' thread but there are a few good suggestions in there, all sorts of different ways to look after ourselves.

Something i've sort of recently found i like is keeping a little tube of hand creme in my bag and taking a few minutes to rub it on my hands and really notice myself doing it. Can do it anywhere just about and when i need to...

We recently got a dog and we've been on a few walks and even though it still makes me a bit nervous to be out walking ive found ive started to enjoy it a bit too.

I have an app on my phone called Smiling Minds that was free that has short meditations on it.

Not sure if thats helpful or not,

LJ

Hi @Queenie,

How are things? Just wanting to check in with you to see how you're going?

I agree with @Former-Member, getting out and about can be good - a brisk walk to get the bloody flowing. Maybe somewhere nice in your neighbourhood. Getting back to basics, for me, is really helpful. Being well-rested, eating healthy food, and exercising means that my body is healthy, which can help my mind.

Hope things have gotten better for you.

Re: Feeling sad tonightett

Hi @Queenie. I know when I'm flat - I get emotional & can't pinpoint the feeling or reason for it. I just put it down to being flat. At times like these I need to keep busy - divert my mind from negative emotions. Today I kept my hands busy by making a soft bed for my dogs. Old material, old pillow & cushion filling and then hand stitched it. Took 3 hours. It was enough to keep me busy until mood lifted.
I hope you are able to find ways to divert your attention away from these feelings.
What about the '? Box' idea spoke about on this forum. Having a box of things you enjoy that make you feel better. Eg: soft material, puzzle, special music, knitting or other craft.

Re: Feeling sad tonightett

@CherryBomb - Sorry I have not replied until now. Things went downhill rather quickly for me. I'm being admitted to hospital early next week due to depression and recent relapse of schizophrenia. I'd be having suicidal commands from my voices (I'm safe though). My gf dropped everything (which I feel really bad about) and is keeping me under a close watch until I get admitted into the private hospital.

Hi @Queenie

Thanks for getting back to me during this tough time, and I'm sorry to hear that it's taken a downhill turn.

It's easy to feel guilty and like you're a burden to others, but please remember that you'd most likely do the same for your gf too if the shoe were on the foot. People support others out of compassion and care.

Be kind to yourself and take care of you just as you would for your loved ones. Be your bestfriend.
