Triggers

Triggers

I'm working through my anxiety but had a trigger yesterday & I fell back down. Suicidal thoughts - not that I would, asking myself what can I do. No one to talk to & see counsellor in a few days. I feel scared that I can't cope. I do though have a few positive moments.

Re: Triggers

Hi @B45

May I take this chance to welcome you into our website

About triggers - I wonder if there is ever a way of getting rid of them - maybe there is but I have discovered myself that they happen and the sky can seem as if it's falling and it seems we have fallen back to the beginning - and - - - - -

Was that a waste of time?

No it wasn't - we are human and we will sometimes surge ahead and sometimes slip back

But we have learned a lot in the meantime - and so we have something to build on and something to aim for every time this happens

And no need at all to apologize - we have a good idea about how tough it can be when we back-slide

You are in good comany

Re: Triggers

@B45. I understand how hard it can be when a trigger can knock you flat. And it's doubly hard when those suicidal thoughts come along. Trying as many diversion tactics as you can to keep you safe until your psychologist. These lows will pass. Just keep holding on. It will get easier.
Wishing you all the best

Re: Triggers

A lot of people have "neighbour" issues. I never really noticed it as thing for me until we moved into our 2nd house and the neighbour fessed up how much he had hated the previous owners ... I was in late 30s by then ..

since then I have seen a few weird and wonderful things ... about neighbours ... if it is any help .. chat about it online between visits ...

I guess I have been luckier than most but I have heard and read about some real dooozies ... its hard when there are children and other family relationships involved .. and everyone takes a different stand ...

there is so much emphasis on individual rights .. we forget to be a family ..hubby should try harder to understand .. but mine did not want to understand me .. he wanted to beat me .. stupid really ..

or we foret to be a neighbourhood ... gradually I am learning not to be too upset by ... things that happen in my street .. but still do my thing ..

Re: Triggers

Hi everyone, thanks so much for your comments & support. I'm feeling much better today but gee it rattles you when you go backwards. I had a chat to hubby the other morning & told him about the suicidal thoughts, his comment "that's silly". He is now coming to a counselling session with me!! I got in touch with my counsellor & also rang Lifeline. I only have one good friend to talk to so I need to get hubby on board cause it certainly helps talking to people who understand & can reassure.

Re: Triggers

Hi @B45

It seems a few people have been able to respond to your post and this is what we do

We can understand people - and reassure

It's great that you have been onto your councellor and rang Life Line - and the best thing - you have your husband on board -

But it is horrible to be alone when things pile up and those triggers start - also - it's very helpful to know what those triggers are - knowing in advance can take some of the power away from them

Re: Triggers

@B45. I'm glad you told your husband about your suicidal thoughts. Although his response wasn't anywhere near ideal - you opened up & shared your extremely hard thoughts. That is a huge step.
Great to know he will go with you to your next appointment. This will be a way for him to understand a bit more.
Glad your feeling a bit better. I hope things keep improving for you.

Re: Triggers

Thanks @Faith-and-Hope & @utopia for your support. Once you get over a setback I think reflecting on it may help. I feel so up and down. It can be frustrating cause you want to feel on top all the time but that isn't life. It is a fact there will always be ups & downs, it's how you deal with them. It is hard to think clearly when you are heading down. I think for me its learning to think positively on that downward spiral. The other issue I have is letting go of that feeling that something bad may happen. Hubby is a logical thinker so I could learn a bit from him.

@B45

It is worth planning ahead with hand-holds and foot-holds ahead of time, for the next time you find yourself with a downward spiral under way .... things that you can turn to, like a duty, to help stabilise you .....

There are some positive quotes threads here - my favourite is QUOTES THAT SETTLE MY MIND under Looking After Ourselves discussion heading, and there is another thread called 365 Project for posting inspirational images, whether home photos of pets or garden, or seascapes and other interesting things.

There is also a thread called Night Shift where forumites tend to hand out 24/7 - most of our night owls keep company there at all hours.

If you start working out other strategies, like stashing coffee vouchers for emergency use, or who you can rock up on their doorstep in tears and they will put the kettle on or go for a walk with you. Work out your soiral/busting go-to list to reach for is you know yourself, and you won't want to be trying to think your way out of it at the time it's actually happening.
