Falling over and getting up again - Literal & Symbolic realms

Falling over and getting up again - Literal & Symbolic realms

I fell over on Thursday and today.

Literally, some of you already realise that I often use words in both metaphoric and simpler ways.

Thursday night was while walking with son to the car after choir and it it was dark and I tripped over a small protuberance. It was so good that he actually offered to help me stand up, and the truth was that I did need help as one knee is still badly grazed. I made light of it. I typically blame myself for not looking and my neck for detaching me from my legs a little, but admitted it is happening more often.

I did not blame council, I only realised that other people often do whilst I was in the act of writing this post. I have never really played blamed games but often been accused of it.

Today I fell over at my bench in my kitchen. My son was out at rehearsal. I was making myself a cheese sandwich and from out of nowhere came a physical force that knocked me flying. I stood up and went to bed, then came out later and picked up the butter kn-ife and piece of bread on the floor.

I can et Lacanian or medieval christian or interpret the experience in a number of other ways. I thought I would just share it with the forum. I am ok but it has been a very intense few weeks, even for me.

I need to go and meet my boy for dinner in the CBD ... just a food court I am not really up with this American thing of eating out all the time. This is one of the first posts where I have just come on the forum and posted my thing without spending a lot of time reading through and trying to take on board other people's posts.

I hope all of you are managing well enough.

Hi Appleblossom. Wow. I hope you are alright after your second fall. Maybe wear runners when you go out to dinner - good grip.
Sometimes the shoes we wear aren't the best for preventing falls. Don't let a few falls make you nervous about falling. Thinking about it too much can make you fall.
Who or what is trying to knock you down? Something wants your attention? Is there something that you need to focus on at the moment?
I hope you have a great time at dinner with your son.

Thanks for your response to my falls. @utopia

In the city I was actually wearing my old hiking boots ... jeans and a long woollen coat. Rarely been one for inappropriate footwear.

At home I was in my socks.

I havent had time to over think it yet.

The weird one at home came suddenly out of the blue a little like my early experiences of SI.

My early SI experiences came out of the blue quite a few years after I had been called into hospital to visit an old girlfriend from school or my sister. My SH came after struggling for years with my siblings SI not really my own SI .. .. it was not like a lead up to something that was worse, but more like having to carry the weight of it and all the stressors long term in my system.

Because I have had neck issues for over 20 years I was very careful when I started going into the city again after raising my children. I was terrified I would fall between the platform and the train and CLUNG to railing for support wherever I could, especially going down stairs.

I have been at this for a long time ... I probably could have written a CBT manual before they called it that .. maybe that is hubris .. but I feel I have both the quals and the lived experience.

Regarding most falls to date, they usually happen on uneven ground. Have to be careful as I am very ungainly with my hands and could easily break something ... but I have NEVER let simple fear stop me much ... never been able to afford to .. often to the point of folly .. ie to get daughters roller blading ... I roller bladed in arm with my oldest daughter as she was less balanced that the middle one .. who took off quicker .. so dont worry I will keep getting up again.

Regarding that weird experience today when I was standing and not walking, I will write it up and talk about it with my psychologist ... one day.

Thanks for not leaving me in the vacuum @utopia... in terms of a caring response. I have been there a very long time.

Wow @Appleblossom. You have a great attitude to life and you sound like a brilliant mum.
If you ever do write a book on CBT I'll be one of the first in line to read it (1st CBT session the other day - struggling with it - but believe I'll get there in the end).
Hope the rest of your weekend goes smoothly

Thanks for saying that about me being a good mum. @utopia It means a great deal to me .. no mother is perfect and as we give birth to human beings we shouldnt feel we have to be perfect. We dont give birth to gods ... and a lot of them have the odd flaw anyhow.

I tried just as hard for my girls but ...

CBT might work for a lot of people if they dont have too many coml;ications to deal with.

Hey @Appleblossom. Really sorry to hear of your recent falls both physically and mentally. I hope your having an ok day and really pleased that you are taking soace for you on here too. I often find it draining posting to new threads and am someone who finds it much easier to support someone I have a bit more understanding of after they have posted a few times. I think that you did a great job for the last few weeks responding to all the new people. You stood up in such an admirable way. Just wanted to tell you that and understand possibly needing some you time. I really hope you find some more peace and enjoyment with the choir. That is an amazing history your family has had with it. Anyway just wanted to wish you well. Thinking of you, sending hugs 😊💜
